TEUTOBURGER auction listing of dubious Third Reich medal

Such an obvious and poor copy - compare the listing images with genuine medal
How does an auction house get away with this?

I'm unfamiliar with the type, but I can tell it has that certain "Made In China" appearance, now that you point it out.

But auction houses are human, too. Probably they were no more familiar with this medal than I was, before stumbling in here.

With your comparison, it's pretty apparent, though. Otherwise, I might not have been the wiser.

Edit: but... they're a German company, so...? Hmm.

    You'd think they'd know better.

I would cast (pun intended) doubt on a long run of Karl Goetz medals listed in the same auction.
As a German auction house, they must know...

With regard to the Goetz struck silver pieces being offered, many do have the requisite Bavarian mint edge stamp however some of them don't e.g. afterstrikes. They have also interspersed some Guido Goetz material and copies.

My blanket warning once again...Goetz WWII 36mm silver struck medals WITHOUT the Bavarian edge stamp are later strikes!!! The German dealers know this, especially WAG/WAGO, and sell them as original 30's-40's medals. Always confirm with dealer before purchase. They don't list this attribute like they used to so ASK!

I have to hope some aspiring neo-type is the successful bidder on this >:)

It sort of has a crude, somewhat comical design. The swastika on the helmet is sort of mushy on the fake.

I tend to believe TB is well aware of Chinese fakes on all levels. (and other German auction houses also)
Had an unpleasant issue with the Subject auction house (TB) about 2 years ago.
Bought a rare Canadian -Newfoundland coin advertised in the auction as VZ+.(EF-AU) When it arrived I realized I was fooled by a purposely done tricky photograph, lights and reflections made it look nice and covered marks and problems. I complained about the porous surfaces not visible on the images posted in the online catalogue. It was suggested by the boss Jr. : perhaps you have never seen one that nice before......our experts evaluate each coin before listing. I is as it is. It took a registered letter and a suggestion of an elevated action to refund all monies. The coin went back... but appeared in 2 subsequent auctions later for 20% of the original listed price. Now they blocked me from their list.
NO loss for me not having to ever deal with unethical people again.

Teutoburger is a big outfit. That's too bad. I was thinking about starting to participate in their auctions.

I believe that Senior is no longer involved and Junior thinks: a new broom sweeps better.
