Tyson. This is a great documentary on Mike Tyson that gives you a complete look at his career, and a good look into the mind of Mike Tyson.

    When we were kings.

This one is a tasty treat indeed! I've seen it twice, and it is about the rumble in the jungle between Ali and Foreman. It delivers all the dirt on that famous fight and tells the whole story of what went down in Zaire.

    Free solo

This documentary is about Alex Honnold, who climbed El Capitan without any ropes or safety devices. He just climbed it with nothing but himself. For those who aren't familiar with El Capitan, it is the hardest rock face to climb in the world, and it is 7,569 feet high. If Alex Honnold would have made one mistake, he would have fallen to his death instantly. In my opinion, his accomplishment is one if the greatest in human history, much less sports history.

    Looking down from El Capitan.

Yes it was, and it should also be noted that he climbed the face of Half Dome without ropes or safety devices, and Half Dome is over 4,000 feet high from the valley floor of Yosemite. If he would have made a mistake on Half Dome, he would have died. He's got some major stones!

    Half Dome.

    Some of mine:

    • The Battered Bastards of Baseball - story of the Portland Mavericks; great look at minor league baseball, starring actor Kurt Russell

    • The Russian Five - story of the "Russian Five" Detroit Red Wings. Defections, deception, intrigue, it's all here. And INCREDIBLE hockey.

    • Red Army - story of the Soviet Red Army hockey team. Includes lots of material on the 1980 Olympics. So awesome to hear the story from the perspective of the "other" guys.

    • Of Miracles and Men - the 1980 Olympics from the US perspective.

    • Long Shot - not exactly a sports documentary but a documentary that involves sports. Tells the story of Juan Catalan, a man wrongly accused of murder. He was eventually cleared thanks to a miracle piece of footage of him at an LA Dodgers game. Engrossing story and really well-done.

    • Hillsborough - tells the story of the Hillsborough Disaster, in which 96 people were crushed to death at a soccer match thanks to overcrowding. Chilling, haunting, and infuriating.

Nearly any of other "30 for 30" episodes are great, too. You can pretty much grab any random one and it'll be great, regardless of whether you care about the topic or not. Skip the fantasy sports one though.
