Ebay Global Shipping during COVID-19?

I am looking for tips here. I have a buyer overseas who wants an item that is 3k but wondering the best method to get the item to him. I hesitate because I know that I recently won some auctions from Japan and mail is not coming from there to the US . I have also noticed the delays with the postal service, which we all know is perfectly understandable at this time. I have not listed the item as I wanted to do my homework prior. Thanks.

I bought a card from Sweden in March and still haven’t gotten it. Great communication by the seller though so no problem waiting. Don’t know what the best shipping is but as a buyer I wouldn’t be concerned given the situation as long as the seller is responsive to emails etc..

First class international shipping is very slow right now. I shipped 2 items on March 10 and it seems the iternational shipping facility in Miami is a problem spot. The 2 mentioned above seem to have disappeared after getting to Miami. No tracking has been updated in 6 weeks. You have an expensive item/ I would take it to the PO and see what the options are. I know they say priority overseas takes 2 weeks. You might even go with expess mail even though its expensive.

I have 4 items to flipping Canada that are stuck in San Francisco and Los Angeles distribution centers since February.

I have a card I bought from Sweden on March 29 that has been stuck in Chicago for nearly two weeks now. Seems it is a common complaint for that hub to take forever to process through. Anything that has come through New York has been seamless though.

I know I mentioned before, but I went back to EBay history. All my non-US shipments. Every.single.one. is sitting in a distribution center, per the USPS site.

You can go online to find specifics, but essentially, mail is moved around the world on commercial passenger airlines. With COVID-19 drastically reducing or temporarily canceling international passenger travel routes, it only goes to follow that cargo capacity has been affected. In addition, I believe many countries, at least for a time, stopped accepting and processing inbound international mail. And then, specific hotspot areas shut down receipt, processing, and delivery of all mail. There are a lot of reasons for the delay of your items. If it was me, while this mail backup and delay gets worked through, I'd rather my shipped items be sitting for an extended time on American soil, in possession of the USPS, than stuck sitting for days in who knows where, being guarded for who knows how long, by who knows who.
