I think the entire card collecting hobby has been infected by speculators mainly the new cards today and unopened material pre 1980 and certain graded cards. If you want to see what happens when speculators control the market all you have to do is go to the Etopps web site and you will see how 95% of the Etopps cards crashed and burned and are now basically worthless. The crash will come but when but it will come because it is so obvious that speculators are controlling the market right now there are going to be a lot of people losing a lot of money just like they did with the Etopps cards.
