Do Others here have White Whales sitting in an E-Bay Virtual Store for Eons at the same price?
Afternoon,
So one of my other areas of collecting besides Non Sport Cards, Rare 1st Science Fiction Hardback Editions, Sports Cards, Comics, and numerous others, is 1950-1989 Horror and SCI-FI Movie Original Lobby Posters 41" X 27".
Now I have a White Whale Lobby Poster that I have lusted after for 20 years and it has eluded me all this time. it is the 1962 Herk Harvey directed "Carnival of Souls". Now it was never a very successful or even that good of a Movie, but it means something to me. When I was 7-8 years old in Sacramento there was a Friday night Fright Movie thing on TV. Now this was over my Mothers strenuous objections, because the Movies would cause me great emotional problems watching that crap, later in life! And she was right, that Movie even to today gives me the Willies when I watch it, and I own it.
"Carnival of Souls", as with most Grade B & C 1950-1990 Horror Movies Posters should range in the $10-$300 range.
So there were three Monumental Movies during that time frame that defined this time with my Dad for me! "Them" (Poster cost $25-50K today, so not happening), "Tarantula" (Poster cost $20-50K today, so not happening) as is befitting two of the more successful 50/60's Horror Monster Movies. The 3rd, "Carnival of Souls", as with most Grade B & C 1950-1990 Horror Movies Posters should range in the $10-$300 range.
There are currently 4 Copies of the Carnival of Souls Poster around the Internet, two on Feebay, one $5K, the one I want at $1500, and 2 Beaters for several Hundreds of Dollars on other sites.
A few Examples I of what I have and what I paid:
Alien $175 (Seller was Asking $300)
Day of the Triffids (1960) $400 (Asking $1000)
Phantasm $200 (Asking $225)
April Fools Day $75 (Asking $100)
One Million Years BC $1000 (Raquel Welch, 1966, and NMT-MT condition.) (Asking $2500)
Don't F*** In The Woods $200 (Real Movie, Poster print run only 200, Has it all, Blood, Gore, Monster and T & A) (Asking $200)
So anyway on to my story, there is a Poster Seller here where I moved 3 years ago in Phoenix. 5-6 years ago I notice he listed a Carnival of Souls Poster for $1500. I contacted him a couple of times while in Colorado but he wouldn't budge or deal, so I just continued to leave it in my Watch list.
FF 2-3 years, I moved to Phoenix and had known he was located here in Phoenix, so I contacted him and we started negotiations again, (Me Negotiating, him not so much!). so finally I say to him, Ok I am highly interested but would like to see the Poster. He informs me that this would not be possible as he has a 30,000 SQ Ft Warehouse and only pulls Posters to ship after Sold. He does not do showings. And the Scan is on E-Bay! Needless to Say I politely told him to pound Sand and when it doesn't Sell in another year, contact me! (I'm sure if I called and wanted to see the 1934 Creature From The Black Lagoon Poster $500K, seeing it would be possible!)
So long story short Today, 3 years since I moved to Phoenix, that Poster is still in my Watch List at $1500, and in 6 years nobody else has watched this but me!
Thats my rant!!!
YeeHah!

A horror movie fan, my type of guy. You would think he would just go ahead and show you the poster. Stubborn! Bad seller! Bad seller!
Yeah I’ve got a bunch of items in my watch list that I feel are grossly over-priced. I just wait...
