Busting 82 Wax Box BBCE

Virus = bad for unopened. The itch got me and tonight is a lonely 82 Wax box. Actually not super focused on Bonner rookie. Love to get some crisp Ryan, Reggie, Lee Smith’s.

Will post some pics in a bit.

About 6 packs left. Best so far is the Reggie AS.

That Henderson looks gem mint for sure.

Henderson looks great. sucks about the bonner rookie, it is not centered that well also the edges look bad.

  • lwehlerslwehlers Posts: 925 ✭✭✭✭✭

what other stars did you get. I opened a box about ten years ago when they were not to expensive and the centering was terrible. every star cards I got were not centered.

  • balco758balco758 Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am getting the usual stars but so far no Ryan or Smith. Centering isn’t very good. I’d say the only cards with even considering grading is Jackson and Rickey - and not even sure those.

Will post one more pic set after finishing last packs.

Ahh. A fellow drunken box ripper. Excellent.

Not to rain on your parade but the Jackson will be an 8 at best due to top-to-bottom centering.

Thanks for sharing these results, Steve, as always! The Henderson looks sharp! Too bad you couldn't see the Ripken through the wrapper. That would have been a $150+ pack if graded.

    Thanks guys.

Tim, I did have a look through all the packs under good light. Just couldn’t get a good read on some, especially the backs. I also struggle on the ROI on sending these packs in. Especially a wax pack with card on the bottom. But I hear you!

And gemmint agree on the Reggie. No worries as there is no parade for me on 82 Topps :)

I've heard stories of people finding Blackless in wax too although most common in cellos... How awesome of a hit would that be!

  • balco758balco758 Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭✭✭

Finished the rip. I remember from 82 you could only expect one Ripken per box. That held true. The Johnny Ray gum card would have upset me back in the day, not so today!

Any of the stickers have value? Imagine only if 10s.

Most of the stars are OC and not worth posting pic.

The George Foster - sig or no sig error brought back some memories.

I can see the Francona having some reasonable value ($100?) down the road. I feel that way about several of the future HOF manager rookie cards - Torre for sure, maybe Boche, LaRussa, etc.

Not that its worth much but is the Seaver the error card? On the reverse one part reads tied and one shows ti d.

This Seaver has the “ti d”. It is a 1 of 1. (That’s mean “2020 Corona 82 Topps Wax rip”). I promise you there are no others!

Looking to sell, no low ball offers! Lol

I would love for the fun of it to open another wax box from 1980 to 1985 again but they are out of my price range. man the gum looks awful probably make you sick to your stomach if you chewed a piece that if it would stay together to chew it.

  • milbrocomilbroco Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭

If someone was to give me a 1980 BBCE wax Box for free...… I will chew every piece of gum and let you know how it is. I can even live stream it...…...………...any takers? haha

LaRussa is already in and his RC is pretty well sought after, I’m pretty sure. I have the Venezuelan version.
