Small project - would like to pin down the number of Doilies w/o PCGS at the top.
10 known to me as of 5-25-21, 12 as of 1-22-23 - post them here, if you would.
I'm guessing there are fewer than 20??

Is that one yours?
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
PCGS is all over the front of the doily label embedded into the design.

I am wondering if the labels without PCGS printed at the top center were some of the first doily labels printed or if it was just a mistake somewhere along the line.
I you know of six holders without PCGS at the top then I would say that it is a pretty safe bet that there are more than ten out there.
Of those six that you are aware of, is that counting the two 1921 Morgans that are pictured in the Doily Census thread?
Do you know the cert numbers of the others ???

I believe so but will double check - have been under the weather so moving/working slowly.....
My only:
My guess is that maybe these were an error in the printing.
The doily background was a printer run in color, then the coin info was printed black, and pcgs was also printed black. What if the pcgs was forgotten before pressing "print"?
And nearly 30 years later somebody noticed?
I'm just happy I found one!

I was a copier tech in the late 80's, early 90's and understand the early print technology.
I suspect that the second printer run of black didn't adhere well, after been thru the print process once already. The black printing on doily labels seems a bit sketchy. Maybe thats why why the doily was abandoned and the ogh was born.

my 1924 $20 Saint Has PCGS in black on top
MIKE B.
Thought we had a 7th but false alarm - any others??
Will bring back once per week for the next 4 weeks, then let it slide for a while.......
I thought it was dot matrix printer with the perforated paper.
The following sold on Heritage a few years back.
Davewesen - thanks for posting!
I don't know what was done for sure. What I suspect was a offsite printer service was used for the green portion of the label, which appears to be a high quality dot matrix printer, then a laser printer used at pcgs to print all the black areas on the label.

My Saint Set
Nice coins!
I look for saints all the time and I hardly ever see one in a doily holder.
When I saw this thread, I thought you folks might be interested.
I don't know the seller.
My Saint Set
Any others??
Nice - like the tab-toning as well - yours??
Thanks- yes.
Have added the Walker and the Wash-Carv to the OP.
All mine have pigs on that top. That's fine by me at this point
I’ve heard of coins that are dogs but not pigs. Those must be really bad! LOL. (joking)

For historical purposes . . . . at the start of this quest, I had about 84 of the 120 known. That proceeded on to around 165, at which point I quit aggressively seeking every one out there . . .and STILL . . . I never had any without the 'PCGS' at the top . . . .

Omg I'm sorry I meant pcgs. The coins are real oinkers to 🙄
Another member shared his with me today - interesting to see 3 commem's in the mix!
Funny, I recall a few dealers refering to PCGS as that back in the early days of slabbing when they didn't get the grades they wanted.

Added #10 this week -- currently on ebay.
Wow - I wonder if the missing PCGS at the top drove the price on this one??
Are there commemoratives WITH PCGS on the top line? I wonder if it was removed to put in the commemorative name.
I just checked GC and out of 25 commems, 24 had a smaller darker PCGS
Thanks for checking that out!
I suspect that the (old generations, Condor101) 2.0, 2.5 and 3.5 were all being produced at the same time as the 3.0 Doily. You will find all 3 generations printed on a Doily label.
The Canada $1 is being offered again this week on GC.
Learn something new every day.
In all of the PCGS slabs I have ever owned not one of them was a Doily.
i have seen 6 others. Sold 4 of them at very strong prices.
your estimate of 20 seems pretty accurate as it equates to a single box of 20.
Might be as high as 40 for two boxes of 20.
edited: my comment does not make sense as the serial numbers are not consecutive as the coins must have been submitted on different submission sheets.
I think 20 to 40 is probably in the right ballpark. I've seen a half dozen over the past decade.
Added #12 today, was posted in the Doily thread earlier this month.
Sandman70gt gave me a heads up on this one ...... but a day late!
I picked one up tonight on HA , 1884-O Morgan with a CAC.
