1995-96 Topps hockey Home Grown Canada Gretzky- one of the scarcest inserts of the 1990s

This was a 30 card set released in Series 2 Canadian hobby packs and according to the Beckett hockey annual #s 16-30 were released in much lesser quantities than the first 1-15. This Gretzky (#20) recently procured is one of the few I'd ever seen offered for sale. There is also an Yzerman (#16) that for a while I thought didn't actually exist but have subsequently been outbid twice on now. (I've been looking for one since the set was released and is my white whale.) Mario Lemieux is #30 making it one of his scarcest cards as well.

Looks like one of those sets most people would casually pass by. Maybe getting word out will help the search by turning up new copies to sell (and/or hurt your chances with more competition at the same time).

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

Nice card - I bought one way back in the day when I was chasing the Gretzky inserts. Glad I gave up the chase before I went broke...

Very little gets by the Gretzky guys as far as cards go.

Wow, grabbing that one up for a third of the price of the one that sold one day before it makes it a heck of a great score too, congrats!

I know right! I was lucky to have seen the listing that night. (There was also one that sold for only $100 a month or so previously. Go figure.)

The Lemieux and Yzerman ones went for $103.50 each the next day. Is that about expected going rate for those two? Relative to the sales figure of $150 for Gretzky, they seem about where expected; but relative to the $430 sales price for the Gretzky, $103.50 seems like a low cost bargain.

Speaking of less common mid-90's Gretzky inserts similar to the OP, I was surprised to see this raw one, #'d /100, go for more than $600, despite it having the potential to grade somewhere in the 6/6.5/7 range.

That 1996-97 Black Diamond set is tough. Not surprised by the Run for the Cup sale price of the Gretzky.

I recently picked up the Roy versions of both of those cards in a collection I bought, and the Run for the Cup I don't think I've seen in a very long time. Seems they are all very tough to come by.
