Europa token

The Europa was a token coinage created in 1928 by Joseph Archer. It was minted in the name of "The Federated States of Europa" and only circulated for a short time between the federalists of the Nièvre region in France. Only two values were minted: 1 Europa and 1/10 Europa, the two coins having the same design, Louis Pasteur on obverse and a map of Europe on reverse. Its exchange value was based on a mix of products and labour. Here are the pictures of the 1 Europa coin (bronze, about 27 mm for 8.25 g)

Clear illustration of the fact that people in Europe were thinking of a federation of states even long ago, the monetary union idea goes back into the mid 19th century with the Latin Monetary Union.

Interesting concept of a monetary unit based on the value of labor. Peace Roy

I had heard that ancient Roman coins were the first monetary union. Of course the rules for entry were a bit different.
