Kentucky Derby to be postponed until September as concerns heighten over COVID-19 pandemic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The 146th running of The Kentucky Derby will be postponed until the first Saturday in September, multiple sources told WDRB News, the latest sporting event to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

It is the first time the Derby will not be held on the first Saturday in May since 1945, when it was postponed until June.

The Derby will be postponed until Saturday, Sept. 5. This is generally about the time the Kentucky State Fair is held.

The Derby is a consistent $400 million economic boon for Louisville with two weeks of events and celebration in the city, including Thunder Over Louisville.

this is the best part of the panic. People will just forget about the fringe sports like horsie racing and baseball and never watch again

makes no sense. historically, it's the first race of the Triple Crown and the way the Horses are trained is determined on the way/order the races are run. it should either be run when it should be or cancelled until next year. so it goes with the various Sports Leagues: postponing makes no sense for any season that is already underway(NBA and NHL) or any season that will be marginally shortened(MLB and NFL).

what I find repugnant about it all, the cancellations and postponements, is that the "Officials" always get it back to MONEY. they pretend to be concerned about the Nation/State/County/City but what they are really worried about is the moolah, bottom line.
