Great move by the Bills. They see what's going on down in NE and are really gearing up for that AFCE title.

he Vikings needed to make some cap space room since they extended Cousins contract. if the Vikings can get 3 starters out of the Bills draft group, they come out on top of trade
AFC East is shaping up, the Bills are getting better as well as the Dolphins, oh and the Pats are going to be terrible I think
Extending Cousins actually saved 10 million in cap space.
Doubt that you are going to get 3 starters, 5th and 6th rounders rarely become starters on good teams.
Mixed emotions about trading Diggs, he certainly has great talent, but his antics really irritated me. They are now VERY thin at WR, Thielen is very good, but after that it looks bleak. Dalvin Cook has been injured every year, if he can't stay healthy, Vikings offense could really drop in productivity.
Vikes still need offensive line help and unless they can resign a couple of defensive players, will need some help there too. Zimmer is a big defense first guy. Two relatively low 1st rounders doesn't bode well for impact players. Maybe package the two #1's and move up?
i'm sure it had been in the works to move him for quite some time, but i guarantee you this tweet (posted yesterday right after Cousins was extended) expedited things
i love Diggs but he mouths off a lot
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
I have been thinking that Diggs was going to get traded for a while now. Not because of the "tweets", but because the Vikings are in a salary cap AND player problem.
They cut 2 defensive linemen and a All-Pro cornerback and have 3 other CBs that are free agents. They just Franchised Safety Anthony Harris and are spending TON of money on safeties. Apparently they are shopping Harris for a draft pick.
Their kicker is also a free agent. One more year on Dalvin Cook's contract, he will be wanting a raise.
It's going to be interesting to see where this goes here in Minnesota. As of now they are 12 million under the cap. They "need" to re-sign some of their defensive players and if they get into a bidding war for guys like Trae Waynes, that money is going to disappear fast!
They better learn how to pass block and/or get some linemen who do a better job. It's looking like Cousins is going to have to lead the offense to score more points next year.
I think with your Pats history the past 20 years, your high status remains intact forever.
With that though.. NOW GO BUFFALO !!!!!
Buffalo will be very good next year.
Not very happy about it. Seems like my team is doing a lot of house cleaning.
The Vikings have spent their way to the top of their salary cap and didn't have much of a choice but to start getting rid of players who made a lot of money.
I am very concerned about the defense this year. If they trade Anthony Harris, (the reports are they are willing to let him go for next to nothing) they will have one starter back from last year's group of DB's.
I didn't think Rhodes was that bad last year considering he was matched up against the other teams best receiver, but he did get beat a few times. What seldom ever got mentioned about his was he was a superb tackler, he was big and strong enough to take on blockers and tackle any RB he got his hands on.
I figured Diggs was on his way out for a couple of reasons;
Primarily, the Vikings have a bunch of very good "skill" position players and the O-Line doesn't seem to pass block very well. This would lead to not "needing" both expensive WR's. I was hoping the Vikings would get an young, established, STUD offensive lineman and a draft pick (or two) for Diggs. The first rounder is nice, although it is a low pick, but the rest of the picks don't excite me. Very few 4th and 5th rounders become solid starters. The Vikings have had some success in those rounds, but it is pretty rare.
Secondly, when healthy, Dalvin Cook makes them a very good offense. The problem has been he is hurt EVERY YEAR. They are also going to have to pay Dalvin or get rid of him too, his contract is up next year.
Mattison does look good too, so maybe if they share the load, they can effectively run the ball, opening up the passing game and holding down the opponent's pass rush. Kirk Cousins has a really nice arm, and he's also accurate, but his big weakness is when he gets pressured.
For about the 8th year in a row, the Vikings need offensive lineman! O'Neil is the only one who they drafted that looks solid. Elflein looks like a bust and Bradberry better get things figured out. Left tackle Reif is getting old and also makes a lot of money. They cut their other guard. Hopefully one of the guys they picked, will develop.
Diggs was also a head case and even though he has a ton of talent, and had a pretty team friendly contract, I don't think Zimmer is going to tolerate his foolishness.
Buffalo Bills free agent signings
Stefon Diggs, Wide receiver
Vernon Butler, defensive tackle.
Mario Addison, defensive end.
Quinton Jefferson, defensive tackle.
A.J. Klein, linebacker
Stefon Diggs gets the headlines. A true #1 for Josh Allen but I’m as excited about Mario Addison.
The Bills had the #2 and #3 defense the last 2 years. Addison had 40 sacks the last 4 years.
They’ve lost a few defensive players for retirement and free agency and Beane and the defense has actually improved.
With #12 no longer in the AFC east and the Jets and Dolphins a few years away from truly being playoff competitive Buffalo has its first real shot at a first round bye.
Granted their schedule isn’t the powder puff it was last year but if they add a true #1 RB to compliment Devin Singletary 11 wins is not out of the question. If Josh Allen takes even a baby step forward no one will look forward to playing Buffalo next year.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Hopefully we load up on the OL. I've always been a fan of having a terrific offensive line - I think if you have that, you can have anyone at running back and be decent and give a QB long enough to throw.
Yes and if you have an exceptional RB, and a QB like Cousins, you have a very productive offense!
They keep talking about moving Reif to guard. That might work and might not. He makes a lot of money and is getting older. It still seems that they need at least 2 new guys up front. The guy they drafted last year(?) Samia sounded pretty nasty. We need to get a little nasty and just knock a few people backwards. If we can give Kirk a nice pocket to operate from, look out!
Otherwise he will continue to look good against average defenses and miserable against the ones with a good pass rush.
Well I guess we should be running the club!
It's easy to do from home, probably a bit tougher if you are the one actually making the decisions.
The biggest thing that confuses me is so many people think you can get 2-4 starters from each years draft.
To my way of thinking a first round pick should be a very good to great player, if not an all-pro, at least a long term (6 years or more) starter. Second rounders should be starters for a few years and once in a while be an all-pro. After that anything you get above a back-up or special teams guy is a bonus.
Looking at the Vikings draft record from 2008-2014, they got 1 starter each year. Several were great players; Griffen (6th round), Smith, Rhodes, Barr and Rudolph, a couple were solid; John Sullivan (6th round) and Phil Loadholt.
During those years they had 6 first round picks that were failures for one reason or another. Ponder, Kalil (#4 overall!), Treadwell and Bridgewater were big misses, although Bridgewater looks like he might be a very good player.....maybe........for someone else.
Percy Harvin looked like a great pick for a while, then lost his mind after 4 good/great seasons. Have to look at him as a miss.
In 2013 they acquired 3 first rounders and only one (Rhodes) was a contributor.
2015 looked awesome, with 4 players becoming starters and all were good to great, however two of them are now gone (Diggs and Waynes).
2016 was a disaster. No starters.
2017 Dalvin Cook looks good/great when healthy, Elflein is beginning to look like a miss.
2018, Brian O'Neil looks like a great pick and Mike Hughes will have his chance to show if he was worth a #1 this year.
I would have tried to trade Diggs for an established offensive lineman and a draft pick.
By the way, after looking up their draft record, I looked at several other teams and they didn't do much better than the Vikings.
Totally agree - I think we've done a decent job drafting and free agency. I almost think that Diggs will go downhill and Treadwell will become a stud in Atlanta.
I would be surprised if Treadwell becomes a stud. He was given a lot of chances here and never did much.
Smart move to trade Diggs.
The value that they received back in return was fantastic!
Erik
Let's hope they pick the right guy(s).
