The old "I changed my mind" routine.

OP,don't feel too bad it could have been much worse. I sold a 14ct graded lot of MJ inserts two weeks ago and put in the listing that the box will be sent with signature confirmation so the buyer knew in advance that it would need to be signed for. Priority Mail 2day had it there within two days on a saturday but the buyer wasn't home. Three business days later its still sitting at his PO so worrying that the PO may try to return it to me I sent the buyer a message kindly letting him know that if he can't be home to sign he can just sign the postal notice and set up redelivery where he's not there. Instead the guy got real hostile and rude telling me he just wants his money back rather than do anything else seeing that he paid for delivery. So he starts the "I never received my item" process just five business days after it was purchased while his cards were sitting just 3 miles/10mins away from his home (I checked). I offer to give him a full refund of the $300+ once my items get sent back to me and this guy wants ebay to make me refund him immediately because he "paid for delivery and it wasn't delivered" even though he chose to ignore the fact the package was at his address two days after purchase. I call ebay who tells me do nothing and wait the four days for the return process to play out and see if the cards get delivered by then.
During this time I find out that even though I paid for Prioirty Mail 2 Day I can't pay to have this package rerouted back to me because my post office didn't use a certain type of shipping label so at this point I'm pretty much preparing for ebay to side with this guy on the refund then likely watching him go pick the package up to end up with it all. Luckily at the last minute the buyer goes and gets the cards from the PO which closes out the item not received case but he immediately opens a return process with the reason being, changed my mind-don't like seller. The ebay rep I then talk to immediately closes the return case in my favor citing this was clearly buyer's remorse which was great after all the drama this guy started. First thing I did after getting off the phone with ebay was block this guy for good. By far the rudest person I've ever come in contact with on ebay, anyone that wants his ebay ID just send me a PM.

Thanks for the story. Every time I think I'll list a few things to sell on ebay I come on here and read stories like yours and it reminds me of why I don't sell things on ebay.

Holy cow Eriktheredd, that is a crazy story. I have never had anyone pull a stunt like that on me yet.

If it were me, I would blast that guys ebay id all over the forums. he deserves it. buyers remorse is no excuse for a return.

I thought about starting a thread here and on BO but adding to this one was good enough. As a seller I try to do all I can to prevent situations like this but sometimes you just run into someone who is straight up cuckoo lol.

Not as bad as the ones above, but since it looks like the thread may have become more of a list as opposed to focusing on the specific OP:

Purchased some items listed as free shipping, and when delivered today, I had about $4 in postage due required to give my carrier in order to take possession of the package. Petty low dollar stuff to complain about I suppose, but it was pretty annoying to have to go scramble for a little cash while the USPS guy was waiting at the door to hand me my "free shipping" package. (2nd time I've had this happen, though it was two different sellers).

I had a package that the person had to pay postage due. I went to my local PO and asked why they did that and they said the person incorrectly weighed the package at our local office and the one it was sent to added what should have been paid. Sounds like they should have just ate the 80 cents because it made it look like I intentionally underpaid when it was their fault

I have a feeling it's not the first time that bandit tried to pull that caper.

I'd rather have them cancel before it's sent out instead of after it's been delivered.

Agreed, your situation should definitely have been the responsibility of USPS for covering the costs.

My seller had stuck a couple stamps on a thick bubble envelope at home rather than taking it in for weighing and such, so I'm sure it was his error, regardless of intent. Maybe it is a strategy to circumvent the ebay benefit policies for prioritized listing and/or fees reduction by offering free shipping, yet still finding a way to have the buyers pay for shipping.
