Awesome Panama California Expo So-Called Dollar HK-426

I have been following these and trying to pick up a high grade example.

My jaw dropped when I saw this one on the NGC Coin Explorer website. Anyone know who owns this?

FYI, a pair of dies (unsure of which date), several of the struck medals and related paperwork between the U.S. Mint and the person who had the concession at the Pan-Cal Expo (possibly C.Muir?) were sold as a group on eBay at least 15 years ago. I was the underbidder on that lot but purchased a similar lot (sans dies) for the 1904 LPE.

It would be incredible to own the dies. I believe they are owned by a forum member.

My understanding is that there is more than one set of dies in public hands.

Good to know there are more than one set of dies.

Do you mean private hands? I would interpret public hands to mean public institutions like museums.

I would consider the pair owned by a forum member to be in private hands.

I also just noticed that North and South America are split apart where the shovel crosses the Isthmus of Panama!
