Official CU 2020 Fantasy Baseball Thread

grote15grote15 Posts: 29,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

As we move into march, the start of baseball season is almost upon us and time for another year of CU Fantasy baseball!

First, I want to confirm that all 12 teams will be returning this year. If you are playing again, please post so in this thread. If any one is NOT returning, please let me know as well and I will open up a waiting list. These are the teams from last season:

Sidepocket confirmed
artistlost's balls confirmed
Field of Dreams confirmed
Grote15 confirmed
Railside Cards confirmed
EASports confirmed
mdkuom not returning
BigRedMachine confirmed
Orioles93 confirmed
TOMORROW • pitcher confirmed
CincyRedlegs confirmed
Kidzfund confirmed

DoctorK pending

Second, we need to select a draft date. Opening Day is March 26. I think Sunday night is the most convenient time for most of us, so how about Sunday, 3/22 at 9 pm EST?

Third, entry fee will again be $50 payable to our league treasurer Mark (sidepocket) via no fee Paypal or Venmo. Paypal payment address is: Mark.saeli@yahoo.com.

Once again, the prizes breakdown will be:

League champion; $300
Runner up; $150
Regular season champion: $100
3rd place winner: $50

Fourth, with a total of 12 teams, we are going to limit the postseason to 6 teams with the top two teams earning a first round playoff bye. All other setting and scoring categories will remain in place. If anyone has any suggestions, we can vote on those.

I will continue to update this thread as we get closer to the start of the season.

Good luck to all!

Tim

    In, like Doug Flynn.

I started as Who's on First, then What's on Second, I Don't Know 3rd base ... last year I was TOMORROW, pitcher

This year, I will be TODAY, catcher!

Hi Tim - count me in again. My new user ID is Sidepocket1; long story but when they had the password bug at PSA I couldn't keep my username so I picked Sidepocket1 and re-registered. Email/paypal address remains the same though as you mentioned - mark.saeli@yahoo.com

And March 22nd works for me!

All but artistlost has confirmed for the upcoming season. DoctorK who PM'd last week will be replacing mkduom who is not returning.

Excellent, we are all set, then!

Draft is scheduled for Sunday, March 22, at 9 pm EST.

I will be updating this thread as we move closer to that date.

    Good luck to all!

Are we still drafting in a week or should we put this on hold until MLB returns?

  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

In light of all that is going on, I have rescheduled the draft to Sunday, April 5 at 9pm EST. If the start of the season is postponed longer than 2 weeks, I will update again.

Tonight would have been the draft, and I would have been #9 or 10, just sayin' :-)

    Be safe.

Now that we are all verified and everybody is on board ....
Wouldn't it be nice to know what the draft position results are -
We could spend our shelter-in-place hours knocking out mock draft after mock draft....
    Just a thought....

At this point, I doubt there will even be a season. I will be pushing draft date out another month or so shortly.

    Acuna? Trout?

  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

With the season now likely postponed till at least June, if not longer, I've rescheduled our draft for Sunday, May 31 at 9 pm EST. That will almost certainly change as things develop between now and then. I hope everyone here is healthy and safe!

Wanted to get some input on whether you guys wanted to go ahead with a season or not. I have been pushing out the draft throughout the past few months and have one now tentatively rescheduled for Sunday, July 19 at 9 pm EST. With 60 games, we're looking at what, a 4 to 5 week season at most? Not sure if that's viable or not but wanted to get some input here before scrapping the season.

My vote would be to forget this season and just come back next year.

I vote play, but perhaps shorten the people who make playoffs

We could do a 2-week playoff with top 4 teams advancing. That's probably the only viable option.

My vote is to skip this season. Any player testing positive will be quarantined. It will be pretty much impossible to maintain a viable team.

  • orioles93orioles93 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree to skip the season. If we play, make the buy in much less. I don’t wanna pay $50 for a shortened season with this much uncertainty.

So far, I'm leaning towards either skipping the season or reducing the buy in to $25 instead of the usual $50. Any other opinions? We're at 3-2 to skip the season with 1 going either way.

It appears that players are now coming forward to say they will not play this year. I think we can just about stick a fork in this one.

At this point, I'm leaning towards canceling the 2020 CU season. If anyone here feels strongly otherwise, please post so.

Any other thoughts? At this point, I think it's best just to pass on the season as the likelihood of additional players either testing positive or deciding to skip an already significantly shortened season continues to grow.

I will start a separate thread for this season and likely create a new league as the previous one from 2019 doesnt seem to have a renewal option any longer.

Please post here to confirm you are returning and I will set everything up. If we don't have at least 12 teams returning, we will create a waiting list.
