My question: Should I have had my 1971-D DDR Washington Quarter Attributed before submitting at show (Long Beach Expo)?
It came back with good grade but no label indicating that variety...Yes this was my first time

Did you ask for attribution?
It is a sad fact that in many cases, unless a grader is very knowledgeable or is made aware of something so he/she is looking for it, many easily seen varieties will often be missed.
