What exactly does "PSA/DNA certified" on a graded card mean?

I have been wondering this for some time. What causes a graded card to have that added to the flip? I have seen the same player's card have this on and not on with the same grade, but with the addition of the above. How does this impact the value of the card if at all, compared to an identically graded card of the same player?

Of course! Had I looked closer at the card, I'd have seen the auto...it was pretty well faded though. I focused too much on the flip.
