Fury vs Wilder II

I'm disappointed in Wilder for not using the most dangerous right hand in boxing last night. I can't believe he allowed Fury to do that to him. A lot of people lost a lot of money in Vegas last night. I have to give credit to Fury, he was better prepared mentally. It has been said that Deontay Wilder has one of the most explosive right hands in boxing history, he has been compared to Mike Tyson as far as knockout power goes. I have to say, last night reminded me of Tyson vs Douglas.

Even though their first fight was a draw, Wilder floored Fury twice in the first fight, but last night the gypsy king was better prepared mentally.

The 3rd matchup which is inevitable will probably be a better fight.

i watched the fight and it reminded me of Tyson v Lewis, not Tyson v Douglas. in other words, a one-trick pony who was exposed when he ran into a skilled pugilist. Wilder's power is alluring, but he can't box. in fact, i didn't give him a single round last night.

Fury was exceptional throughout, but i could've done without the blood licking

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

I saw that blood licking, and must admit, it was pretty disgusting. I definitely give Fury credit because he did what he said he was going to do, but Wilder just wasn't mentally prepared. I think Wilder has the ability to beat anyone he faces, due to his power, but Fury fought the better fight this time and was more determined, and aggressive than Wilder. I am looking forward to the third fight. I just hope in the next fight, Wilder will show what he is capable of, and use that right hand to drop some bombs. It was great entertainment though.

This is what Wilder is capable of with his power. You have to swing to hit a home run, and he just didn't swing last night.

I missed the fight. Watched some highlights. Every boxing fan I heard comment before the fight was predicting a Fury win, though they were all surprised by his weight gain. Did he have a lot more power than usual?

The first punch you have there indicates that boxing is as rigged as wrestling. What was greg the hammer valentine even doing in the ring he must be 70?

Fury has more power in his punches than I expected him to have last night, and he was just more aggressive and determined than Wilder was. He also was in better shape than the last fight against Wilder. I have to take my hat off to Fury, he fought one heck of a fight. I think most people, myself included, thought Wilder would knock Fury out with his power, but Fury just fought the more aggressive fight. I still think Wilder is capable of beating him. If I was Wilder, I would be pissed off about that blood licking incident, and use that anger fir the next fight. Tyson Fury was a savage last night.

I'm not sure, but Don King has not aged well over the years...

    Don King in the 1970s..

    Don King today..

That punch started 60 feet away in the 7th row!

I would have to see it in full speed and have more context, but I agree it's pretty telegraphed. Should have seen it coming to put up some defense.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

The punch happen a lot faster in the ring than it appears, and by the time that guy realized what was coming, he didn't have time to react. I'm pretty sure he didn't want to be on the receiving end of a brutal blow to the face like that, and would have gladly gotten out of the way if he could.

    I agree. :D

That's why I said you would need to see full speed and have some context. Sometimes boxers are not putting up good defense. Sometimes you can telegraph punches.

No that was the agreed upon round to take the dive , and he did the patented greg valentine tree topple routine.

Before you say something like BOX IS TOTALLY LEGIT I mean :D we know better, it was so bad everyone on earth took 20 years off from boxing.

I'm glad you said it. I was so confused what a boxing thread was doing in a sports forum. People don't actually bet money on who will "win" these shows, do they?

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

I do have to admit, boxing sure as heck isn't what it used to be. If I want a good boxing fix these days, I usually have to go to youtube, and watch matches I've already seen a million times. I think I've seen Leonard vs Hagler 17 times now.

There's actually a book I've been meaning to read about that Leonard vs Hagler fight called "Sorcery at Caesars". I've heard it is a pretty good read, and goes into detail about why that fight went the way it did.

  • thisistheshowthisistheshow Posts: 9,386 ✭✭✭✭✭

I know I have already said it, but Hagler is my favorite boxer ever.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

There is another great book about that era of boxing called "Four Kings". It's about Leonard, Hagler Hearns, and Duran.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

I remember when Duran said "no mas" against Leonard and quit the fight and walked off. He got pissed off because Leonard, who was known for "getting on his bicycle" and riding around the ring, wouldn't square up with him and fight him straight up in the ring. I read that Duran got tired of having to chase Leonard around the ring, and basically said "to heck with it, I quit."

Of course everyone wants to see a rematch with Fury and Wilder, but right now, it seems like the biggest fight that everyone wants to see is Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury, which would crown an undisputed world heavyweight champion.

  • bronco2078bronco2078 Posts: 10,229 ✭✭✭✭✭

wilder is done , joshua has a glass jaw he will fold up like a cheap suit

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't think Joshua has a chance against Fury, heck Joshua couldn't even handle Ruiz. As far as Wilder goes, I don't think he is anywhere near done, he just needs to be more aggressive like he was in the first Fury fight, when he dropped Fury twice. He needs to use that right hand. All it takes is one well placed punch to make Fury the gypsy queen. ;)

Wilder making excuses now. "I got tired from wearing my costume" ?!?!?

That is a lame excuse for him to use. Tyson Fury was just the better fighter that night, and Wilder needs to stop with the lame excuses. That costume was stupid looking anyway.

Mark Breland , Wilders trainer, is also taking a lot of heat for throwing in the towel. I think Breland made the right choice because Wilder just wasn't fighting back, and was taking a beating. I know Wilder wanted to continue, but it is Breland's job to protect Wilder from himself and if Wilder is going to sit there and take a beating like that and not try to fight back, then Breland has no choice but to say enough is enough.

That was a great fight, and Roberto Duran was the only member of the fabulous four that was able to beat Leonard.
