The Smoker Token: No Pleasure Can Exceed the Smoking of the Weed NGC MS62PL SOLD
No Pleasure Can Exceed the Smoking of the Weed/ JNT Levick Storecard M-NY-429 struck in white metal NGC MS62PL $2500 NOW $1600
Here is a great piece of Americana that always draws a lot of interest from regular coin collectors and exonumia enthusiasts alike. It is also featured in Q. David Bowers' "100 greatest tokens and Medals."
During the 19th Century, "the Weed" most assuredly meant tobacco, as the reverse suggests with its interlocking pipes. This was probably the intended marriage of dies as JNT Levick's business address is listed.
JNT Levick was an interesting fellow. A Civil War veteran with the New York Excelsior brigade, he was an avid coin collector and one of the pioneers of the American Numismatic Society.
He held an enormous interest in tokens and medals and had these special pieces struck by George Lovett.
Today, they are treasured for the whimsical depiction of a jolly old fat man smoking a stogie on the obverse.
Always in demand, they have a tendency to find permanent homes rather quickly. I'm offering it here before it goes out on my sales newsletter next week.
As always, reasonable offers may be considered if it doesnt immediately sell. Offered here at $2500, shipped.
Thanks for looking!

I have always been drawn to this obverse die.
I wish I could be in the running.
The war image you posted of Levick shows me this die was likely inspired by his likeness.
You own an AWESOME Exonumia goodie !!!

is the smoker still available ?
It is still available, you can utilize the PM function to message your offer.
I will be posting an updated photo this week since I dont feel it captures the true look of the token, which is quite prooflike and lustrous.
Next week, it will be added for sale in my newsletter so all interested parties should speak now or forever hold their peace

Here is a thought:
Would trade this awesome token for 72 silver dollars of average circulated quality (no culls)
Of course, I'd still accept the cash price which is a decent price for thise always in demand token.
Happy Thanksgiving

A comparable piece with the Woodgate reverse sold last night for $3600
Mine has a very similar look, but is graded MS62PL. It has Levick's intended Storecard reverse die, which I find more desirable.
My pics are dark. The coin is reflective and prooflike in hand:
