Would anybody here know something about HA.com's archive policy related to past auction photos.

In particular when there are auctions lets say from 1996-1997 there numerous are times when there are no photos of the coins, just the written descriptions etc. Does that mean if you bought the old catalog there would be no photo or that there would be a photo but for some reason it was just too long ago for HA.com to have it on their website or some combo of that scenario(s).
Thanks

No clue but I'm curious about Heritage auction records from back then as well.

I don't know the answer to the question about photos in catalogs.
My guess is that the archived photos are everything they took with a digital camera.

Somewhere around 1998 to 2000 is where the photos started being stored online. I had noticed more precisely where the cut off was, but no longer recall when it changed. Also the online listings only go back to around 1993.

For those items lacking photos online, there may be no way to tell whether there was one in the catalog unless the description mentions it or it was a major item. Also, some of the 1990's catalogs only had obverse photos with no reverse shown. That was the case for at least some of the color photo plates. I think black and white photos usually showed both sides. Not sure when that changed as I only have scattered catalogs from that time frame and don't have access to them at the moment.

Just noticed they have some, or maybe all, up on the Newman Numismatic Portal. Last I looked a few weeks or months ago there was only a summary title that referred people to the Heritage website.

I still like having the actual catalog though this is helpful for those I don't have.

    Using @WinLoseWin's helpful link:

    NNP currently has Heritage catalogs:
1983-1999 (some color pages in front, but mostly black and white); I have never seen a black and white photo on their online site.
April 2007 - 2018 (all color; some with no photos in the printed catalog, but always full slab photos online).

2000 - March 2007 are possibly being scanned now.

Newman Portal scanned all the pre-2000 HA catalogs as they sometimes contain images not found on the HA archives. We do not intend to scan the post-2000 catalogs since the HA archives are the best source for this content.

We also scanned all the HA Bullet Sales, pre-HA Steve Ivy sales, etc.
