What does TPGers do with certified varieties that have been reclassified or debunked? 1849/8 H10C

I have seen a few 1849/8 H10C that are for sale/auction and wonder what the owner is going to do about the variety that is now considered to be reclassified/debunked? They could send them back to have them corrected, but would the TPG reholder and relabel them at their expense or to the submitter?

I have this 1849/8 (incorrectly attributed) H10C PCGS AU58 CAC which has been reclassified as 1849 Overdate FS-302 (001.55) H10C (PCGS #145432), when the 1849/8 variety was removed/reclassified.

I would think that the TPGers would want to make the populations correct and avoid confusion when the seller is making the coin available...but at who's expense?

In my view, ideally the TPGs should offer reholdering for a small fee, when the label designation is improved.

For this coin I would personally prefer to see: "V-2 9 / far 6" on the label.

"V-2" is precise for both the obverse and reverse dies, and is helpful for the obverse die state. (Compare to V-6 with a later obverse die state).

"9 / far 6" is helpful for reference to the Red Book as a major variety, and to distinguish it from the "9 / near 6" variety.

For reference, here is my one-page summary of the three 1849 overdate obverse dies.
They were used in 5 die pairs; using the V- numbers is the simplest way to label them.

I had one and sent it in for TrueView which of course requires reholder. I just asked them to correct it in
BIG WRITING on the submission sheet and highlighted it in PINK. :p It came back right.

I think that's the key for any special request. The space on the online submission form prints out your comments in really small print.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
