Image Gallery / Coin Album view questions

Hey everyone, I'm just getting started over here on the registry (used the NGC registry exclusively for the last ten years, so it's a bit of an adjustment).

When I click on my own image gallery/coin album view from my profile, this is what I see:

My question is... what determines the order of these coin images? They're not by date added as the Kennedys are the most recent additions and they're in the middle. It's not date minted, obviously. It's not by denomination, obviously. It's not by value or grade. It's not by first year of issue (because the Mercury and the Walking Liberty both debuted in 1916 but it put the 50c piece first, not to mention it put the $10 gold Indian at the end). It's not by PCGS coin number.

So, I'm stumped.

Can anyone shed any light on why the software puts them in this order and if I have any control over that to order them more appropriately? Thanks!

Is there not a “move” option? Maybe I’m thinking of something else.

I think that's only in the showcases? You can rearrange showcases to your preferred order. I don't see a move option here though. Would be great if there was one!

That’s an idea. Letting @SetRegistryManager know or maybe he can give pointers.

Have you tried click, hold, and drag? Is this a showcase? or digital album, or image gallery.

Usually require sign in and then click edit to modify. Then if you look careful by words like My Showcase, there are little question marks that show how to delete, move, etc. I hope this helps as I don't think they are the same as an "image gallery" Maybe try making a new showcase or album, and it can be in the order you want?

It's not a showcase, it's the "Gallery" link found on my public registry profile. If you go to my public profile and click on "Gallery", you should see the same thing. It's a section that shows all of your coins that have images. I'm just trying to figure out which metric the software is using to organize them. It's not random as it's the same order every time I click on it, but based on my original post, it's not any logical commonly-used-by-software metric that I can identify. So I'm simply trying to figure out how and why it's ordering them this way. Drag and drop does not work for reordering here like it does in the showcases.

Thanks. I never even looked at that profile thing before. Anyway I clicked on gallery and there are about 300-400 of my medals, coins, etc pictured and I can not see any order logic to them, at all. Not date, not PCGS number, not gold, not tokens, just random.

I guess to me it doesn't matter as I never wanted to see all my pictures anyway, only ones I select for a showcase or album. Some of my pictures are not that great, anyway. Maybe they will add a sort feature if enough people are interested.

I think it’s in-order by date added to the general inventory.

If the coin is removed or swapped it still remembers the initial instance that a coin was there.

So, removing and replacing will not matter.

I think it’s like that to break ties and why every change to sets are tracked when assigning coins to a registry set.

    Or, not. ;)

I'm going to guess that it's by order of when you added the coin to your inventory. I just added 3 yesterday and they now appear first in my gallery.

As mentioned in the OP, the Kennedys were the most recently added coins, and they're in the middle.

It's not the biggest deal in the world, I just feel like presentation matters a lot in things like a digital registry, it is literally all about the presentation if you make your sets public, so having a set of coin photos in no discernible order just makes my brain hurt.

I don't think that is the case, at least with all the galleries. My last coin added doesn't appear until the 60th row. It was just added last week. The first 12 rows are coins from a series I haven't added to in at least 3 years. I would be interested also in what criteria is used in sorting.

@AlanLastufka first off, welcome! Thanks for diving into the PCGS Set Registry! (I love your 1907 $10, btw)

I took a look at the ordering for the 'entire gallery' page (not just the set gallery), which shows all the images in an inventory for each user (depending on the settings in Preferences): custom image uploads should follow the Inventory order, but at this time PCGS TrueView images are coming back fairly random. Our developers are going to look into this and see if they can provide better ordering for the user gallery pages.

Thanks so much! I've really been enjoying the registry (and forum) here quite a bit. And thank you for looking into this, I do appreciate it.

On mine it appears to be TrueViews first in date order, followed by user uploaded photos in date order.

This logic is pretty annoying if looking at a set gallery since it takes it out of date order. For example, my 36-42 Proof set:
    Gallery:
    https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/u-s-coins/proof-sets/1936-1942-proof-set/imagegallery/196911
    Album:
    https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/u-s-coins/proof-sets/1936-1942-proof-set/album/196911

I think the solution is to create an album, those are always in the correct order
