The article by Jay Turner is certainly worth a view. There were more Kyle Ponterio items auctioned than shown -- it looks like the selection of coins that were described were based on the strength of their hammer price, so not necessarily representative of the overall collection.

Many of the bidders were friends, colleagues and clients of Kyle's, and enjoyed watching him build this collection and learning so much in the process. And to some extent it felt like the collection belonged to all of us, because Kyle enthusiastically showed us every purchase he made along the way, beaming with pride and eager to tell the coin's story. The end result was a true rarity in itself: A room full of bidders hoping that prices would go through the roof.

Anyone can build a collection like this. It just takes way more effort than most people are willing to make.
