Where is the best place to sell slabbed coins?

Selling a friend's collection. Most coins are slabbed but he also has a non-slabbed American type set.

Is eBay the best place? TIA.

Do you know their value? If so, suggest that you try the BST first since it's FREE.

What a lot of folks I know do is to save up their coins for the "big" shows. I can think of four or five obvious shows in different parts of the country. Winter FUN would be one.

If you or your friend are looking for convenience then I’d recommend talking with David Lawrence Rare Coins. They will work with you to either auction the coins or make an offer. This wouldn’t be the way to maximize the dollars but it simplifies the experience greatly. Heritage also does this although I’m not familiar with their processes.

It really depends on what they are.

Much more detail is needed concerning the coins involved, the name of the company that slabbed them, and timing of any payments needed. Do any of the slabbed coins have "stickers" such as you see mentioned often on these boards? This will also affect value.

True. Most of the collectors on the BST max out at 5 cents on the dollar.

lol. That's funny. Cuz EVERYTHING is better on BST.

I wonder why Stack's bothers to even hold auctions.

It really depends on what the coins are and what your goal is in terms of work you have to do.

If you want to absolutely maximize your return, you can list on the BST or shop specific coins to the dealers best suited to them (easier at a show, but doable by mail). This will take a while and may not be successful for some coins.

If you want to do some work but get rid of them, take photos and put them on eBay.

If you don't want to do any work, but get paid pretty quickly, there are a few options:
-Ship everything to a dealer and take their check
-Consign everything to an eBay seller
    -Consign to GreatCollections

Consignments may take a little longer to settle than a dealer buying it all, but you will likely net more by having the coins marketed to potential end buyers, not a dealer in the middle. If you aren't experienced with eBay or good with photography, you may also recover some or much of the cost of the commission by having someone more experienced net a higher sale price. I don't know what GreatCollections charges and values where it does/doesn't make sense to use them, but I charge 7% ($12 min) plus eBay fees. There are a few others who work in a similar manner to me.

Well, he didn't ask for the best place for the seller now, did he? ;)

Cameeon12x, it looks like you have well over 1000 posts, since joining the forum in 2010. I’m surprised you thought you’d get meaningful answers to your question, without providing any specifics, other then that the coins are slabbed.

Start a thread on the general coin board asking for help, have dozens of replies to it to keep it at the top and prime the pump for those people who send you a private message or wait for your subsequent BST.

Some pics of the slabbed and raw coins will greatly help.

A generic question gets generic answers.

    Good luck!
