Champion vs Champion

doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

I wish there was a way to watch teams that have won championships over the decades play eachother to see who the greatest really is. For instance, what if the 1993 Cowboys went up against the 1979 Steelers, or the 1998 Bulls vs the 1987 Lakers. I've always wondered how the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers would do against the other college champions of the past, or the 90s Yankees vs the Big Red machine. Of, course we'll never know, but it is fun to wonder about.

If this thread is a bust, I blame my wife. She is watching the Jeopardy greatest of all time game on ABC. That's where the idea came from. I picked Ken Jennings to win. He is the GOAT.

I would like to have seen Montana and Brady go head to head.

was a big Oakland fan in the 70's, never thought they got the credit they deserved. would like to see then face off against some of the later Yankee teams.

or on the football side, see one of the Steeler teams from the Mean Joe/Ham?Lambert years go against BRady

Yes, for Oakland to win three straight World Series and take a back seat to the big red machine is crazy. I heard Pete Rose once say, "We were the dynasty of the 70s."

In Football you would have to be careful of what you wish for, the worst team today would absolutely crush the best team of the 60’s and it wouldn’t even be close. putting teams against each other that are not too far apart would be awesome though!

I would love to see the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers go against some of the other national champions. That 95' Nebraska team was the best I've ever seen on the college level.

Sorry but I respectfully disagree. Just because the game has changed some doesn't mean that the great teams in prior years couldn't compete. It still the same at it's core, blocking, tackling, defense and running the ball. JMO

Ah yes. Here is a picture of IBM deep blue. Also pictured is Ms. Pacman, who IBM deep blue was rumored to have a on-going affair with.

No need to be sorry for disagreeing with me buddy, that’s the point of sports talk to agree, disagree, point and counter point! As far as your points go the basics of the game are roughly the same but the players of today are vastly stronger, more athletic and bigger. I believe this years Cincinnati Team would utterly crush any team Jim Brown played on and any other team from the 1950’s to the 1970’s

The 93 Cowboys beat the 79 Steelers hands down.

I heard an expert say that athletes were the biggest, toughest, smartest, strongest, better than any in history in 1965. Don't believe teams from old would not be competitive with modern teams.

You forgot to mention that it was 1965 when you heard the expert say that, in which case I have no doubt that it was true when they said it. Ha!

Absolutely. Our Phys Ed Teacher said that in 1965. I've never known him to tell an untruth.
