What grade do you think PSA would give this card?- 1958 John Unitas

Hi. I'm thinking about buying this 1958 Unitas online. I think it looks quite nice for 1958 football. I would appreciate your opinion of how PSA would grade this.

Thanks.

Jeff

    6?

Upper right corner looks odd. Centered too much to the right. Also a bit high, although that wouldn't bother me. One print dot, discoloration(?) on top border?

    Nice card!

You could also search past sales to see what raw and graded cards have gone for in a given condition compared to the one you are considering. You'll be able to see various grades and see how they stack up to yours. I like the looks of the card you are looking at - naturally there are quite a few worse out there.

I would guess a 6 also from the scans.

Agree with 6, centering on the back would be a turnoff for some, front looks great

5.... noticeable wear on three corners and chipping all around on reverse.

First impression is 6. But it will depend on surface which is not easily deduced from an image. Good luck if you end up buying it.

my best guesstimate would be a 5 due to issues listed in previous posts

  • Thanks for the comments, everyone. My feeling was it's probably a nice 6, maybe a chance at 6.5. Of course, I am no expert. I could buy it for $100. That seems reasonable, but not a steal. SMR lists it at $90 as a 6, and $200 as a 7. We'll see.

I would not touch it at $100 raw. Far more downside risk than upside, IMHO. Assuming it comes back a 6, it's still a loss after grading fees.

I doubt that it has any chance at a 6.5. First off, they seldom give out the .5 and secondly if it gets a .5 grade it's MUCH more likely to get a 5.5.

Don't forget grading fees and postage$60-70 a better price for this card.

Check out this 6, it blows the one you are looking at AWAY!
