Never liked you Alex...and if this proves true, I like you even less. You snubbed the White House invite, because you thought Puerto Rico wasn't getting enough BILLIONS...you could have at least visited Walter Reed hospital, where you would have found perhaps a severly injured Hispanic soldier to comfort. You're the emotionless figure in the dugout, who uber lucked out and got the season of a lifetime not long ago. Now this.
IF TRUE repeat, IF TRUE, may a very, very heavy penalty fall upon you from a very great height.

I think he is going to get jammed up
Hard Al! Like really hard
there are like 7 threads already about this
It's not enough! We should aim high, let's get it up to 50 threads! Onward we sail !!
😂😂😂
if MLB allows these managers to be fired I'm calling bullshit on the whole thing.
Suspending a manager punishes the team and the person. You can't fire him , you have to go all season with no official manager , you have to pay his salary , and he doesn't get his salary it goes to charity or the league as a fine or something.
That being said , Cora won only because he cheated so he is no loss, look at cheat free Cora's record last year as evidence
How could the general manager, the manager, and all the pitchers know about it and the bench coach not? The Red Sox should fire him now!
Cora is gonna get Black Sox’d

I can't seem to find what the "trash can banging scheme" is, or was. I can only find where Cora formulated this action. What exactly is this?
As a lifelong Red Sox fan, and I do mean LIFELONG, having seen Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle play in Fenway, if the Red Sox and MLB find Cora also guilty of sign stealing of signs during the 2018 series, I say strip the Red Sox of their 2018 WS win, rings, awards, banners, whatever is associated with the investigation into the 2018 sign stealing of signs issue now being investigated by Red Sox management.
I think John Henry has no choice here but to fire Cora, and the MLB Commissioner has no choice but to formulate a ban of Cora and a very hefty fine. If they can ban Pete Rose for life, so can they ban Alex Cora for life. Cheating is cheating, stealing is stealing...UNACCEPTABLE
Imagine the incredible abuse his kids will endure!
Is Joe Girardi in the wings??? What irony that would be!!
I doubt that anyone is getting "stripped" of a championship just yet.
I do like that MLB is finally punishing the offenders. I wonder if these punishments hold up under appeal.
Most of the "bountygate" punishments were significantly reduced.
Whoa, look at this little guy. He must work for the Houston Astros.
Hi AL! Couple things. First off they will not take away the WS championship nor should they in my opinion. I think Cora will definitely get fired by the Sox and he will either get a multi year or permanent ban. His Kids will be fine in their big money private school with all the other filthy rich kids. Joe Girardi huh? Can’t see a Yankee blooded guy managing in Boston!
No, that's Belichick filming the Bengals.
They won't, but they should, IF proven true during the 2018 WS...cheating is cheating. Cora is total TOAST...nobody will hire him, not even as a ground crew member. His kids, no matter where they go to school, will be harassed without mercy, school yard kids can be extremely cruel. Girardi was just a quick thought...many have gone from Fenway to the Bronx, some the other way...could be Joe, hopefully NOT LaRussa. And, I wonder, where was the dynamic duo of Tony (I fell asleep at the wheel I was so drunk in Florida), and Dumbo during the 2018 WS?? Could they have been so oblivious to what might have been going on?
Just another black mark on Boston sports, but this one appears legit.
BTW...I heard that "one finger down" meant fastball and the batter would ignore the pitch (so they say). The trash can beating was to advise the batter of a slider. Must have been beating on that can a lot.
Take care Paul.
Al
It’s been a day, and I’m more ticked off today than I was yesterday. I’ll do my best to put aside my Dodgers fandom and write objectively. I love the game of baseball a helluva lot more than the laundry I root for.
If Astros owner Jim Crane had any integrity and the stones to do it, he’d relinquish that 2017 WS trophy, STAT. It would be a PR win. As it sits, they’re gonna get f’ing crucified everywhere they go. But if they vacate their own trophy, fans’ll still remember to a point, but will also have good feels about the Astros actually doing the right thing, rather than this effin’ slap on the wrist they got. $5 million ain’t Schmidt. Draft picks’ll hurt a little, too, but by & large they got off with nothing.
I do mean vacate, too. No WS winner for 2017. Big ol’ blank spot for everyone to remember for all time.
And the players get off with nothing? For real? Naw, fam, that ain’t right. Every damn player on that squad effin’ KNEW they were cheating. They either participated or were silent. They cheated their opponents, and they cheated the integrity of the game. That’s a big f’ing deal, worse than steroids, worse than Pete Rose, damn near worse than 1919.
Name them AND suspend them, I say. Yeah, we all know who played on that team, but put their names in print anyway. I’m madder about the players skating than I am about anything in this whole bloody mess.

Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox have “mutually agreed to part ways”, which is a nice way to say his (posterior) got fired.

Good!
Prediction: either an Astros or a Red Sox player from the 2017 or 2018 teams, respectively, will shatter the HBP record. There will be many contenders for the title.

glad Cora is gone
But if they vacate their own trophy, fans’ll still remember to a point, but will also have good feels about the Astros actually doing the right thing
fans have very short memories and the principals in this whole incident have one thing in common: in their Hearts they don't really think they did anything wrong and only regret having been caught. the silence of everybody from the lowly clubhouse boy all the way to the Commissioner speaks way louder than anything they could say.
AJ Hinch and Alex Cora in particular most likely will hope things quiet down before they try to re-enter MLB at some level. here again, we will get to witness a "character check" as some Owner, somewhere, will hire these guys. don't get me wrong, I believe in forgiveness, redemption and second chances --- but that all comes with a price tag attached and to me, that price must be paid. these guys need to come clean about what was done, how they participated, everyone who was involved and, in the Church of Baseball, perform their Penance.
the almost unmentioned element in the whole thing is the players. they were the active participants and monetary winners.
The Astros lead by Cora ripped off the Yankees too. It's a f'ing disgrace. But that's all water under the bridge now. The Red Sox had only one choice and they did it quickly. Good for them. Let's hope the investigation of the Sox doesn't turn up the same cheating scheme. These guys must be blackballed by MLB and the minors. If there is ever a great time for collusion this is it but if some Independent team in Montana wants to hire one of 'em go for it.
As for players who did partake but had nothing to do with implementation of the scheme? I'm fine leaving them alone. This wasn't a money grab like the Black Sox scandal. This wasn't a scheme developed and brought forth by entities OUTSIDE of MLB like the Black Sox scandal was.

It is a good day to be the anti fan.
Such shock that cheating could go on in a professional even when jocks and their coaches are paid tens or hundreds of millions of dollars to do not much of anything.
We have had a ton of steroid users, A crime of the week from the Patriots. A rogue NBA ref. A bunch of NFL hacks that are either rigging the games or are inept beyond any rational thought.
Somehow, as loyal, diehard and moronic sports fans, we want to believe the games are fair and more importantly, not predetermined.
They are indeed rigged. Top to bottom, probably not as who cares about a late season New England, Miami game. But many are at least at the point shaving level and look no further than the push to legalize sports wagering to confirm that.
Enjoy the last 3 NFL games. I don't know who will win the Superbowl, but undoubtedly at least a handful of folks in New York, do.
bye bye Beltran LOL

Every sports talking head I have heard says that MLB didn't punish the players because the union would challenge every one, and it would drag it on incessantly. I don't think that's the reason. I would assume that punishing players would create a constant state of retribution and retaliation. The players are already angry at the one guy for snitching. But now they don't have to keep going after each other.
I'll still wear my 2018 Red Sox WS hat, but I hate this situation.
so Beltran is gone and the list of dirt-bags who were instrumental in this and haven't yet publicly apologized for what they did or admitted guilt grows. Beltran did it "for the good of the Team" and the Team is on record as saying "this isn't the end of his MLB career" which is absurd.
They don't need to keep beltran , he planned how the team was going to cheat , thats why they hired him. They can't cheat so keep his system and fire him.
Cheating was worth 30 wins to cora , if the sox can't cheat who needs him? A lamp post can manage a team to .500

Beltran has, in fact, apologized and admitted his participation.
"Over my 20 years in the game, I've always taken pride in being a leader and doing things the right way, and in this situation, I failed. As a veteran player on the team, I should've recognized the severity of the issue and truly regret the actions that were taken. I am a man of faith and integrity and what took place did not demonstrate those characteristics that are so very important to me and my family. I am very sorry. It's not who I am as a father, a husband, a teammate and as an educator. The Mets organization and I mutually agreed to part ways, moving forward for the greater good with no further distractions. I hope that at some point in time, I'll have the opportunity to return to this game that I love so much."
OK, I didn't see that report.
Beltran and Cora can’t ever come back. It’s sad they don’t realize it. Let’s see who else this sucks in.

i heard a report that mlb was trying to bury the sox cheating and halt things with the astros but the internet ruined things for that by pushing the story .
I wont say the media ruined it , they would most likely help bury it
Have heard the same things, that MLB was aware of the Astros cheating for a long time but didn't do anything until Mike Fiers went public.
Listening to Red Sox players comment on this situation you get the feeling that they expect MLB will find similar actions during the 2018 season.

With 30 MLB teams, I find it hard to believe that less than 10% are involved in this fiasco. With so much at stake during the season, which leads to more playoff money and WS money, I also find it hard to believe that in some form or another sign stealing is de rigueur. Doesn't make it right, but I'd bet there's been a bit of scrambling going on at other ballparks, or teams to go on the hush hush.
Like an iceberg, only 10% is visible above the surface.
