acording to an article i read, the night watchman at the mint secretley made batches of these coins to sell to collectors. Those batches would be struck and indistinguishable from the real thing - if the story is true.
The misshapen letters along with the void on the reverse and the general roughness of the surface make me think it is a cast counterfeit. You might see evidence on the edge where there could be evidence of the seam between the two halves of the mold.

I think it might be an altered date coin, looks like a "5" under the "2"

this did come from a multi million dollar collection
Belonging to whom? Put it in the title of the thread. Just an idea.
Good point, not being a copper guy I wasn't aware until I looked up the date.

Cast? What's the edge look like?
Did you soak it to see if it’s nose grease

i don.t see any casting marks, you mean like a seam from a mold correct?
see the punch mark between the s and o,
not sure about the nose grease?
keep in mind the punch mark is rite behind the date..
also the coin was in one of the clear flip folders that probably affected the tone.
just another pic to see if u think its cast.i,m a beginner so i don,t know.
one more
i have seen the offset rim on other legit coins
as far as tone its like chocalte brown my camera makes it look more metalic
acording to an article i read, the night watchman at the mint secretley made batches of these coins to sell to collectors.
I don’t like the shape of the 2. Is that punch mark directly behind the 2? Any chance the 2 was embossed?
@georgepatrick
Your showing the rim. Here is an example of an edge:
punch mark is directly behind the two, like debris struck?
see if this comes out better
i would agree the obverse looks cast
So does the reverse. That home could be an air bubble
heres that article from ngc .thought you might check it out.i know it has nothing to do with my coin,i figured it was off
