The day the NFL figured out Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr.

The coronation on this guy was a bit premature. He has yet to win anything.

I missed the game last night. Let this be a lesson to all who enter the realm of too much beer and chili dogs.
Now that they lost maybe the media guys can stop with the utter nonsense of doing write ups about how Lamar Jax clones are the future of the NFL QB position.
This just goes to show you, the era of the pocket passer is not over.
talk radio was all about how ryan tannehill was going to lose the game because the ravens would stop the run.
has talk radio ever been right?
The titans are a wagon , either they played with even more confidence than last week or the ravens were a fraud and actually worse than the patriots
Maybe the Ravens remembered that they were really the Browns and choked.
actually, the Cleveland Browns have done a good job on him in 2 of the 3 times they played his Ravens. at the end of the 2018 season, although the Ravens won, Cleveland provided the blueprint to stop Lamar Jackson and the Ravens promptly lost in the first round. ditto for the week four loss to Cleveland this season. actually, there isn't really a secret to stopping Jackson and the Ravens then is different from stopping any other Team --- execution is the key, and the Defensive Coordinator must decide which aspect of the offense they want to deny. that always leaves some other aspect available and the results depend on who wins the battle.
realistically, in yesterdays game the results may have been different if the Ravens had been able to slow down Derrick Henry. right now we really don't know how good the Titans are, we only know how good Henry and the running game are. when their next opponent sacrafices something to slow him we'll see how effective the Titans passing game is.
I enjoyed the game, it reminded me of old-fashioned smash mouth football and not the video game version which dominates, a hybrid of the Bill Walsh west coast scheme. let's face it, most of us were raised with the simple mantra Championships are won with defense and the running game. that's fallen by the wayside but is still pertinent and yesterday it was clear that the Titans controlled the line of scrimmage, offense and defense.
that game did expose the Ravens somewhat but I really don't believe it did anything to hurt the fact that, yes, the Quarterback position is changing. Lamar Jackson is the current best example of that change. the position is currently dominated by players who are very adept at moving out of the pocket and running or passing on the move. Ryan Tannehill is probably an average QB at best but he moves well. others in that same fashion include Russell Wilson, Jimmy Garappolo, Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, all QB's currently in the playoffs and not a typical pocket-passer amongst them.
I know there are members who argue against that point, but it is the trend right now, it is what is coming up from the NCAA and the style that is dominating the highest levels of the NFL. and don't misunderstand me, all of those guys tend to stay in the pocket IF THEY CAN but the current trend is away from a guy who can't elude from pressure. those types are becoming dinosaurs and will probably go the way of the Fullback as we know that position.
The Ravens lost because someone came up with a solid defensive scheme against him. Don't look at the stats; anyone who watched knows they were hollow. Most of the yards given up after the Titans had a large lead and let them move from 20 to 20. It was the first game I really watched the Ravens and it was amazing that Jackson has that much trouble making sideline throws. The Titans defenders had plenty of recovery time on each of those throws. Unless he can build up arm strength he will have problems going forward against better defenses. Sure they will win a lot of regular season games, but.....playoff games will be another story. And if you don't win the big one, well IMO this type of system doesn't work.
As a caveat, I realize this is only his second year in the league, but it looks like the playoff quality teams have figured him out.
except pocket passers who can move in the pocket do just fine , and the fullback is making a comeback
the QB position is about how well you throw the ball, and I'm not talking about the 60 yard heaves down the field. The touch passes, the sideline passes, the back shoulder throws.....you must have the ability to make them all. It is that ability that will make a truly great QB because he is so difficult to defend
I'll take a good wild west gunslinger any day of the week. Defenses are going to figure out running quarterbacks eventually. I'll take a solid offensive line and Clint Eastwood at quarterback.
Maybe Burt Reynolds at QB???
just smash them in the legs over and over and its done
But Just in case Burt decides to fix the game and intentionally lose, make sure that an old guy is around to tell him a "slapped the guard" story so that he changes his mind. LOL
Unfortunately people will still pay an INSANE dollar for his stuff.
moral of the story: this is a team game. individual players are not nearly as valuable as you think they are. strip them of their key cogs and all of a sudden the type of impact they normally have on a game is diminished
case in point, last night. lamar looked completely discombobulated out there with his stud TE and his read-option homie at far, far less than 100%
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
