1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter Altered Date

jmlanzafjmlanzaf Posts: 34,755 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was listing some gently used Dansco albums on eBay tonight and I noticed that there is an asterisk on the inside cover of the Standing Liberty Quarter album warning to "Beware altered date"

Does anyone know what this is referring to? That is not that scarce of a date. I assume you would alter a 1926 or 1929 or maybe a 1923, but you wouldn't gain anything in the process.

Anyone know?

FWIW, my 1961 Red Book warns of a 1923-S altered date, none of my later ones do.

There would be no reason to alter a date on a 1928-S quarter, unless it was to alter the date to a 1923-S.

I can't see a reason either which is why the Dansco album cover is so perplexing

Makes no sense. Perhaps Dansco was trying to reflect the Redbook warning and somebody misread 1923 as 1928.
