White Plains Show Experience

Just back from a drop in to the WP show and thought I was share feedback. It was my first card show in 25 years. I believe this show has been going on for 30 years as I attended as a 12 year old when it was a Gloria Rubenstein show.

Anyway, I went in with low expectations - all modern, very high prices vis-a-vis VCP, cranky dealers, especially on Day 1. Well, I was wrong on 2 of 3.

Feedback:

  • if you live in the tri-state area and have a free weekend, 100% worth the trip.

  • all the grading companies are there.

  • lots of modern and lots of raw. Having not been to a show in decades was surprised to see dealer after dealers with tons of raw.

  • Maybe it’s me but I just don’t want to deal with raw. Risk, costs to grade, can’t see flaws at a show etc etc. Again, that may be just me, but until I see a slew of PSA slabbed cards, I don’t really stop to browse.

  • Was pleasantly surprised to see a BBCE booth. Spent time speaking with Brent and sung love for Steve and all things BBCE. We chatted up unopened, price of Jordan rookies, etc and was a great time. What I loved was the 78 cello box was $2000, same as you can but on their website. No surprise to most of us.

  • Saw an amazing booth of unopened. Crazy 1967 PSA 9 1:1 pack with dead centered Seaver on top. Wish I took a photo. They had a 60 and 62 cello, a partial 74 rack box (non BBCE), and ton of nice packs from 70 on forward.

Almost pulled the trigger on a sweet but very old holder / PSA 9 1972 Ryan but the ink mark on back gave me pause.

All in all a very positive experience; upbeat and candid chats with several dealers, no pressure nonsense. It gave me hope for our favorite hobby and look forward to attending this show again next year.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Steve
