Nice little story about hitting the card you are after...

Sorry, first off, to those who aren't modern collectors. This is about moderns and football cards and Panini. My favorite team is the New England Patriots and my favorite rookie this year is WR N'Keal Harry. I have been collecting all his stuff all year but have been waiting patiently for the new hot Contenders cards to be released. I really wanted a low numbered N'Keal Harry Rookie Ticket card. This was my main goal all year. So, I get in on a break and the on the first box I hit a N'Keal Harry 1998 Anniversary Rookie Ticket numbered 03/20. PERFECT! I LITTERALLY HIT THE CARD I WAS AFTER ON MY FIRST TRY! Its an on card auto with lower numbering than I expected. Then the guy breaking the box says something about a smudge or smearing on the bottom of the card. It didn't look bad on video. Well, I got the card this morning in the mail. Holly sh!t this card is a mess! The bottom of the card looks like it had something spilled on it and then wiped off and then was autographed over it. It is ruined. On the reverse there is a large blue ink smudge on the bottom of the card. I have never been so disappointed in my life. I hit the card and it's literally destroyed and worthless. No one in their right mind would buy this card. I have noticed a lot of poor quality control on the part of Panini this year more than most. Im tired of getting taken advantage of by their "exclusive" deal with the NFL. They produce too much and in too poor of quality. I returned the card to Panini through their damaged card process. All I want is that card. I doubt they have another one laying around to replace it. I'm going to end up with some POS card of their choosing to replace it. Im tired of this and the 22 redemptions I have at Panini waiting for months to be filled. Get your sh!t together Panini!

It looks even worse in hand.

I would have kept the card unless they are going to replace it with an exact duplicate.

    Glad I don't collect modern.

    Bummer.

That's just flat out ridiculous, just what kind of Mickey Mouse operation are they running over there at Panini?

That’s horrible. I seriously doubt there’s any way you are going to be made while on this one. Like Joe said I would have considered just keeping the card, particularly given he is your guy. You can always get an upgrade down the line.

I don’t collect FB nor have I ever busted Panini before, but I don’t recall a single auto coming back smudged in all my modern rips.

    Good luck on the replacement.

Maybe it was spilled during the signing and they didn’t produce extras. If that were the case they either release it as is or they never have 20. It is really disappointing to get a card like that and it really sucks for the OP. Not sure how they would be able to produce more and then have them signed. Wonder if any others of that particular card has damage.

After reading how you feel about the card, a title that reads "Nice little story...." seems inaccurate.

I added a bit of sarcasm.

Well, at this point the card looks more like a colorful used napkin. They need to get their act together at Panini. After a stunt like this, I won't be spending any money with them. I've heard that Panini has pulled shenanigans like this before.

Really sorry to hear about this. I definitely would have kept the card as he is a PC player of yours. May be a card you will not be able to replace

Im afraid you are all correct. I probably should have kept the card. But on the other hand it would just be a awful worthless reminder of this event. I did a lot of complaining in my notes to them about this. I sent it back to them on my attorney letterhead. Hopefully they take me serious.
