The Last (Han) Emperor

The final Ming emperor, known as the Chong Zhen emperor, was defeated by Manchu forces from the north (The Manchu emperors are known as the Qing dynasty, the last being Pu Yi, who was the so-called Last Emperor).
The cash coin, like most (not all) is read with the two parts of the reign name vertically. The "denomination" is horizontal, right to left; Tong Bao. The bao character, which can be translated as "treasure," is a stylized treasure chest. Note the drawers in the lower part of the character.
The reverse figures a Wu which corresponds to the year 1638.
