Did they fix this ? I ran a couple checks and I'm not getting tax on coins or paper money. Did a check in sports memorabilia and I got tax.
I just bought a coin in the Morgan category (I'm in Illinois) and was charged sales tax of 6.25%.
What's interesting is that the tax is calculated from the original total-even if one uses eBay bucks (which I did).

Contrary to the whiners around here, eBay is trying to get it right. They can't legally collect sales tax that isn't owed.
I'm not whining. I just don't want to pay any taxes I don't have to.

I wasn't referring to you. Every time a new State comes online, people start whining about how eBay sucks and eBay doesn't care to get it right and eBay is intentionally charging them tax they don't have to, etc.

The eBay bucks will not alleviate the tax burden, at least in states I'm familiar with. eBay bucks is just a cash-like payment.

From what I read, that is correct. I just wasn't sure how it would be applied.
I'm just disappointed that tax was collected when it shouldn't be according to Illinois law. I guess I'll have to now go through the ever trusty state to collect my refund.

Ok. I had my eye on something now my highest bid will be minus tax. That means I won't get it
I just called customer support. Nice guy on the phone, but he said they had technical issues and couldn't do anything about the tax. He told me to call back later and they will try to help. I'll report back if anything is resolved.

I'll say this about the Ebay customer support people, they are always friendly and do their best to resolve issues.

My guess is that the forum would be cheering for a dead heat.

Any chance the coins are being taxed because they are also listed in other categories that ARE taxable?

It was only listed in one category (Morgans).
