They always come up with another reason to reslab your coins and cards.
While I think this is cool, I would like to see less focus on slab innovation and more focus on investing in technology to help in the actual grading process and fraud detection. I do really like what PSA has done with adding scans for graded cards for certain submission levels, that should help a bit with the cracking/alteration issue.

Could not agree more with this post. Like the tech idea with the chip which will be helpful, but if you read the boards and talk to collectors that is not the issue facing the hobby today - not even a top 5 issue. Absolutely the top issues today and going forward are problems with cards being graded that have trimming issues and not being caught and turn time for submissions.
Seems like both should be the focus of PSA going forward and would be beneficial to the hobby. For submission turns I think that separating submissions into groups would be helpful. Baseball, football, basketball subs should be broken down into two groups modern and pre 1990. If you have all cards 1989 UD and newer done by one group of graders who specialize in modern it would make more sense. The volume of modern would not be impacting the older subs, and the quality of graders for older cards could be enhanced by letting them focus on pre 1989 cards.
Second one would be enhanced scrutiny of cards that are being altered and submitted for grading, and using better technology like sizing grids, black lights, and other means would help to keep these cards out of holders. The better companies are at keeping bad cards out of holders the more people will continue to keep submitting cards with confidence. If it ever got to what happened with the autograph market back in the 80’s and 90’s that would be a bad situation.

It is already easy to scan the cert with a phone. While this is nice and will make it impossible to fake a barcode - I would much rather see an announcement of the launch of a photo matching step, department or software. Really any announcement on measures to increase the ability to detect trimmed cards.
welcome to the forum
yep -- as has been stated, detecting the trimmed cards is paramount to the future of card grading...seeing some of the photos/scans of some of the trimmed cards that made it into holders is disheartening to those of us who really enjoy card collecting and the grading process. Something as easy as holding a straightedge along each side of the card would catch a lot of this crap...
