These are some of the great photographs that were used to produce sports cards. This stuff has always fascinated me. Feel free to add any photos you may find. This is a fun little project and any additions are more than welcome!

I have to get Joe Louis in on this.
I recently saw this large group photo which was used to create some of their corresponding T206's

Awesome museum pieces. Thanks for sharing!
I don't own these photos or cards, this is just a little project I've been cooking up. I thought it might be cool to see the original photos behind some of these iconic cards. I've always found this stuff to be fascinating.

Awesome thread!
Thank you! It is a little project that I've been working on the past few days. I'm trying to find the photos behind some of the hobby's iconic cards. It's become an obsession. It's a lot of fun!
Another Babe Ruth. I can't get enough of the great Bambino.
great looking at these, very cool

I have a few of the topps negatives. I have a ton of work to do get my collection where I would like it. This is the negative for the Scott rolen 99 chrome card
Topps vault has a ton of negatives or photos for sale. Some are cheap yet a fun way to get the photo or negative that was used for a card.
Awesome Scott Rolen negative! I love the Topps vault stuff!
That is awesome! Thanks!
Anyone have the Payton RC history photo?
PC Walter Payton - Bear Down!
I've actually been trying to find the photo from Walter Paytons rookie card, but haven't had any luck. A lot of the photos are just near impossible to locate. I've been unable to find a lot of them.
Here's an interesting story from the guy who took the photo used on Wayne Gretzky's rookie card. (He doesn't say if the originals still exist, though.)

Very cool story! I have actually been trying to find the photo used to make Wayne Gretzky's rookie card, and I just can't find it anywhere. It's very ironic that the photographer that took that photo was actually there to see Gordie Howe! Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
Ok. This is NOT the negative used--BUT--it was the shot taken just BEFORE the negative used for Walter Payton's 1977 Topps card. The cool thing about this negative is that it can make a print up t o 4 feet by 5 feet without losing clarity! It's HUGE!
Note: I have a black & white negative from 1976 training camp that is really awesome. I painted it up for a card in 2016. I can share that if you'd like. I also have a crappy 35mm image of Walter in his Soldier Field debut that's dark but historic. Not sure if we have Walter fans here or not and I don't want to hijack.

Yes! I am a huge fan of Walter, that picture is amazing! I would love to see the 75 debut pic- Thank for sharing!

Here a a couple...the dark one is from a pre-season game and the colorized one is from training camp...in the spirit of the thread I have included the card I made from the training camp negative. The original B&W negative is spectacular in it's own right...

Awesome Walter Payton stuff! I've been wanting to get "sweetness" in on this thread! Great stuff!
