1986 topps football product experts...??

Hello All,

I need help identifying a product which I believe I got as a gift in 1986. Any experts out there that can confirm if this is from the topps company? I believe this product came from topps from an order related to the 1986 sticker yearbook. I've listed the set on Ebay as a topps factory box, but a buyer asked how I knew it was a topps factory box or did someone create those stickers and glue them to the box? My parents are too old to remember and I was young a
nd happy to get it back then. Any expert opinion would be appreciated.

the bottom of your set box appears blank. topps usually had a code of some sort on all their products. i also think if they were going to print sticker graphics, they would at least include their logo somewhere.

To me that appears to be a common 400 count set box with aftermarket/printed stickers attached by a reseller. Any factory set from topp s would have had any graphics directly printed on the box not applied by stickers. I believe it to be a hand collated set not an original topps product

BBCE had '84 factory sets a few years ago that were plain brown boxes with a white label (.75"x2") with a Topps product code on it. According to Reed at the time, that's the only boxes topps football factory sets came in until '87 and I'm pretty sure he said he was keeping one for his own collection so he may be able to chime in if he still has it.

  • I appreciate the info gentlemen. I'll change my listing to more of a hand collated set. I don't want to mislead anyone. I never liked the brown boxes because they are so plain. Lol

I get that. I collect baseball factory sets and I always opted for the colorful holiday boxes. I just picked up an '84 and they ONLY come in the plain brown boxes. It really kills the display aspect. Lol

  • Whoever put the stickers on the 1986 topps box did a pretty good job at least. It's got nice detail in the printing and you can feel the lettering and numbering off the paper. Ah well, I do have a factory sealed brown box 1986 and 1987 topps football factory set, but again, they are not much to look at. I had to write 1987 topps on the one in case I decide to sell and I'm too old to remember which is which.
