China Issues First Circulation-Issue Square Commemorative

Without a doubt, one of the most talked about coins on the PCGS social media platforms in the last year, was the square quarter. Just recently, China released their own square coin, with a bit more of a traditional look.

On November 28, 2019, The People’s Bank of China issued the first in a series of coins to commemorate world cultural and natural heritage UNESCO sites. This first commemorative issue features Taishan in Tai’an, in the Shandong province in China. Taishan, also known as Mount Tai, is the eastern mountain of the Five Great Mountains of China and has been a place of importance in China for over 3,000 years.
