well i decided to play

I decided to join in the pop craze when my buddy Matt told me the langley #2 set in MS kennedys was going up. It wasnt easy not to buy it all, theres some incredible peices in there. Once I see the coins, I will decided which way my collecting start besides statehood proofs will be, as I can only handle the 2. I will be with drawing any others sets other than that once i decide my direction. I chose his sms ms70 cause im a fan of matte proofs, and went for the clad 76 (i believe an old braddick coin) which in itself says alot.

If I dont go in ms kennedy direction, I maybe willing to trade for the 76 clad. Im not sure id let the matte go unless whoever has that nickle (matts old sms ms70fs) and wants to work a trade...I am a big fan of jeffersons and have a full dnsco, just needs sms ones and proofs 68-s and up till present.

thats it for today

  • Have fun! I'd recommend the Jeffersons. I don't follow Kennedies but aren't Jeffs cheaper? Anyway I agree the Matte coins are neat.

  • It looks like a beautiful coin. For me to guess if it is perfect I'd need to get it under the light and use my loupe on it...

  • I think I owned a couple of the pieces as well. I know that I owned the 1966 in MS-66 at one point, and I sold a couple of Kennedys to Braddick before he sold them to Matt. Wasn't aware that he was going to retire that set. Bummer.

I will deffinately keep at the raw jeffersons. But I love the look of a high grade proof sans cameo pcgs frankie.......as I said...looks of the 70 will determine my next move...

but i love all coins even lures

Looks like a rim ding at 6:00 on the reverse. It's a minor point, but a 70 is supposed to be absolutely perfect, and the buyer will be paying over $1,000.

I would bet that it is a nick on the holder or goo on the scanner. All of the MS-70's that I have seen have been true 70's as far as marks and dings.

Although, I did own one with a struck-through fragment. According to the PCGS definition, that was allowed.

  • Well I guess the cats out of the bag, I was a few udgrades away from the # 2 Kennedy set and things changed, not by choice, and its being sold. There were some fantastic coins and the best stuff is mostly all gone.

Bill that 1998 SMS 70 is perfect!!! It was from the Braddick Collection, i`ll let him confirm your new coin, but it is flawless!!!!! IM sure Pat will attest to its beauty, Pat also likes the best.....

That 76 P was from my former # 1 set and the only way it came back to me was Richard Green found one with better color, Richard is a perfectionist just a touch more than me. Richard now owns a handfull of coins from my former # set, that has made his the best that will ever be.....and he has a nice set...

I think these Kennedys are hot and only will get hotter it is a sleeper in one of the best series out there,

Bill I would like to see the look on your face when you see this 98 SMS 70.....image

    Matt,

You were so close too. Sorry to see you having to sell.

    Bill & Matt,

I sold Braddick the 98-S MS-70 out of my set. I will attest that it is flawless and amazing image

If someone told me it is difficult to tell the difference, generally, between a PCGS MS70 and a MS69- I'd have to agree with him.
If that some collector instead stated, "It is impossible to tell the difference- ALL the time" all I'd have to do is, without saying a word, show him a 1998-S SMS69 and Matt's SMS70. After looking at the two coins I imagine that collector looking up at me and simply shaking his head in disbelief that he could be so easily wrong.

That coin would make a believer out of any skeptic.

  • So KiethDagen sold it to Braddick, Braddick sold it to Matt, now Matt is selling it to....

So now I understand the practice of "investing in higrade moderns for the longterm". image

    coyn,

I got the piece from Wondercoin for my Kennedy set and MS Modern Type set. When the Kennedy market heated up, I sold most of them off and concentrated on the Type sets. I had the #3 MS Modern Type set and retired it at that level to finish off my first love, 20th Century Type. Ironically, the prices on Kennedys were heating up becuase Matt, the eventual owner, was back in the game.

For other fun Kennedy facts, the 1966 in his set was part of his original Langley set. I bought the piece from him for my Kennedy set and Type set when that set was sold. When I liquidated my Kennedy set, as a courtesy, I gave him first dibs on the piece and he reacquired it.

  • Its a funny thing this second set was going to be forever, business for me is tight, I live in the heart of silcone valley the economy sucks, and the city is doing a remodel on my street where my business is and it just cost me 250K! Big friggin OUCH!!!!
more than many see in quite a few years, something had to go unfortunalty for me was my registry set.....

If it makes you feel any better- I sold it for about what I had into it! image I never considered any Modern an "investment" unless a hobby and a life joy is considered an investment.

  • And if this makes you feel any better I sold it to Bill for excatly what I paid for it.......image

I sold it to Pat at break-even, so it's the coin that keeps on giving. image

Ive seen other product of Matts (sms ms70fs 1997-p) and that floored me...I know this is gonna be wild, but what Braddick said made me shutter, because I deffinately want to see the difference, and this sounds like my best chance.

Oh and thanks for letting me know its history. Something that beautiful going thru all the major players hands into mine. Also shows none of you sell garbage...

I cant wait to see it.
