Could have happened like another coin landed on it. and hot chocalate spilled on them. No question is a bad question. On with the hunt my good man.
It's environmental damage, not an error. Something stained the coin. Copper is a very reactive metal and there are numerous things that can cause it to darken/discolor.
Not an error.
