Researching the 1970s LMC small vs large date..help please!

This isnt the typical " is this a small date? " post. Im more interested in why? Why did they have a small and large date? Why was it only on proofs? Is the 1970s doubled die ( one of them ) a small over large date? Or even vice versa? Last question for now..lol. Whenever the question of a 1970 Philadelphia comes up in forums asking.." is this large or small" the answer is always , ( there isnt a small and large date for that mint.) Ok, I understand that, but also understand what the poster meant. ( And its not this forum btw ) If you were to slap an S on the Philadelphia cent, would it resemble the small or large or none of the above?

It was not until your last sentence that you mentioned “cent.” Though, I assumed that is what you meant just took a long read to verify.

Thank you! And thanks for bringing that to my attention! In my own little Lincoln Cent world over here.🤗
I swear im not trying to be a pain ..however those links i have seen ..it doesn't answer any questions. I can discern the small date from the large. Im looking for what came first? The large or small date? Why was there a change? What is the Philadelphia date? ( it has to be one of them or its a totally different variety..right? )
