I rarely turn my laptop off but internet connection was lost so I rebooted. After that I click on my shortcut for my Epson V550 scanner and it won't come up. I tried downloading the drivers again but nothing. I click on the shortcut and it flashes then doesn't do anything. Any ideas??? Thanks!

Try unplugging the usb from scanner to your computer? Should reset and retrieve your "found new device" icon
Tried that and powering down the scanner and plugging the USB back in with no luck.
Is it listed in the "devices" under the control panel?
make sure it's checked as the primary device?
i once had an auto update and for whatever reason it went from printers>scanner to "other devices" and as such not avail to use until i uninstalled then reinstalled.
Yep. I click on the shortcut and it won't open then when I go to devices and click on it, it won't open.
Hammer?
but in all seriousness, that's the extent of my computer knowledge.
Not going to lie... Love that!
Toggle the power switch on the right edge, off and back on.
Do you have another PC to test it on? Did you try plugging it into a different USB port? What does the scanner do when you power it on while not connected to the PC?

Tried turning it on and off with USB connected and not connected.
Yes, I have another laptop I can try it on. When I try it on another USB port still the same thing. Turning the scanner off then back on, the ready button flashes, the scanning bar inside lights up and moves a bit then goes back to the starting position then the ready light stays on like normal. It's just the program that won't open up on the computer itself. I think it has to be some sort of software issue. Maybe needs some patch or something....not sure. Just odd how it was working last night and not today.
Think I found a workaround
You have another driver saved on your computer of another brand scanner. The epson can't decide which one to use. Delete all other drivers from other brands. That will solve your problem. Call epson customer support. They lead me to that fix about 6 months ago. Works great now.
Do tell... The Epson software has a mind of its own sometimes.

As we Silver Surfers know, sometimes we have trouble with our computers. I had a problem yesterday, so I called Eric, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control and asked him to come over. Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong? He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired,' An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.'Eric grinned.... 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?' No,' I replied.' Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out. 'So I wrote down:ID10TI used to like Eric, the little ................
Hilarious! Joke stolen.
Is it a Perfection V550 Photo? I had this happen to mine and I was never able to figure it out. Had to get a new scanner, which was actually an older, used Epson Perfection, which worked like a charm and has for years now. If you've figured it out, let me know.

PEBKAC is the leading cause of ID ten T error designations. Another acronym you should probably be prepared for
