Black friday is coming up and I need to upgrade my pathetic scanner badly. Could some of you with amazing scans post an item with your scanner name so I can make a great choice.I'm sure others who are looking for a great scanner could use this thread.
Thanks

If I were you I would go with an Epson. I use an Epson Perfection V600 Photo.
To get the scans you see by some of us here you will need a dedicated scanner. A scanner/printer and the thinner flatbed scanners will be a CIS type. You need a CCD type.
Take a look at my signature and read the scanning guide and look at my digital albums. All the scans are with the V600.

This and use his guide!
You pretty much wrote the blueprint for scanning cards. Sold.
If printing with it also, reminder that the cost of an Epson printer is doubled first time you need to buy ink. Then over and over again. Along with spam pop ups constantly to buy their ink. Notorious for this.
I have used an Epson PERFECTION V200 PHOTO for about 12 years and it does a great job. These scans are more than 11 years apart. Even after a more than a decade it still scans very well.

No more scanners. A good box and a half way decent camera phone can get you pretty decent results.
these are done with an iphone 6s. my new ipad blows these ones away.
everyone always marveled over pwccs scans when in reality they used photography as well.
way less time consuming and you dont have to be tied down to your laptop.
couple that with not having to use hosting sites any longer, all the additional real estate the scanners and laptop use, being dependent on your home isp, headaches with software updates both on the computer and scanner and with the additional time it saves, it was a no brainer for me.
i know theres gonna be tons of folks set in their existing ways until the time comes when their laptops and/or free tech support, support updates expire (which probably wont be too long from now anyways) but for those that are thinking about dropping $500 on a vcr’ish scanner right now, you may just want to consider a different option.
For those of you looking for an Epson Perfection Scanner. The 3 lowest cost current models which will work for PSA graded cards are the v370 (may produce the jail bar look see 4SC scans or scan below. If someone would confirm that that would be great), v550 and v600. These are CCD scanners. There are older models which will be fine, just make sure they are a CCD type. I recommend the V600.
The v19 and v39 will not work. Due to their CIS technology they will not properly focus on the depth of the slab. You need a CCD scanner.

On some scan samples I have seen, the v370 will produce the jail bar look as seen below. Bright areas on the high spots on the slab case. May of the scans on 4sc have this look. This card is from their website.

I think each have their place. A camera is a necessity to properly capture refractor type cards. For me, in general, a scanner is the best tool. It is quick (I use no post processing at all, I crop during the scan process), repeatable and reliable. With a camera you have to have a setup which will allow you to shoot from directly straight on so the card is not skewed (my pet peeve), also you have to have a setup which avoids any reflections or glare. Either way, dealing with PSA cards is a ton easier than coin photography. For coins, a DSLR setup is the preferred, but surprisingly I can get a decent image with my V600.
Cost wise, you can get a factory refurbished V370 on ebay now for $79. See my message above on the jail bar look.
To each their own. It is good to know the different options available.

ehh, sort of.
w/ most boxes, a mini tripod and bluetooth remote are included. you can take cropped pics as fast as you can press the button. theres zero waiting for the led lighting to warm up or even run to and fro over the card each time.
but you are right, refractors cards must be shot at an angle which scanners cant do.
for those vintage cards, i prefer the straight, non-tilted view as well. you simply lay the card on the floor of the box and switch to shooting from the hole in the top of the box vs the front. again, pwcc uses photography, not scanners. they are straight-on, zero-tilt photographs.
@Largentcollector Not sure if this is your website or not, but your scans have been used on this page. Thought I would give you a heads up. https://www.psacollector.com/baseball-card-scanner/

I’m not sure if this is the latest scanner thread or not but I’m in the market for a new one and looking for recommendations. I can’t seem to get BGS labels or the larger psa slabs to scan nicely. PWCC scans seem to be crystal clear. Say what you want about their business practices but their scanning game is A+ . I’m looking for something that that can scan larger slabs too like ticket and magazine slabs. Thanks for any ideas
Hi @eagles33, I have a quick question about one of your cards. What would be the best way to reach you? All the best
Epson V600
They are not using a scanner, they use a camera. Same with SGC, CSG, BGS, and PSA
PSA was using a Epson Expression 12000XL Graphic Arts scanner a couple years ago for securescan. Has that changed?

judging from the way PSA's pictures come out, especially of refractors, Im sure they still use a scanner. PWCC has stated they use photography.
