What Ebay purchase of yours surprised you the most?

What purchase have you made over the years that made you think everyone else knew something you didnt, but turned out good? Maybe it was a Buy It Now priced too low or simply an item that did not get bid up near its market value?

Personally, I found a real nice 1955 Bowman Mantle 4 years ago with a Buy It Now of $150. It was already in its 4th day and no takers for a card that looked like an easy 7 and possible higher. The seller was not a sports card seller, so I took a chance, measured it when it came in and it graded PSA 7. I can only assume there were concerns on its authenticity /trimmed borders.

Any other good surprises?

My 1946 Propagandas Montiel Joe Louis card sat on Ebay for months. At the beginning, it was a buy it now $300, but I ended up making an offer of $80 + shipping for it. I guess the seller got tired of looking at it, so he accepted my offer. It is an extremely difficult Joe Louis card to locate.

ETA: Thanks to 1951WheatiesPremium for reminding me about it being on Ebay, or it might have slipped away.

I took a chance on a 1977 Walter Payton raw for $25... when it came back from PSA I was extremely pleased with the Mint 9 grade.

I "overpaid" for my 2000 Brady Contenders in '04 thinking at the time I was really stupid for bidding and drinking at the same time. Outside of NE, no one really thought much of this 6th round game manager, two SB wins or not.

That said, the $225 I spent on my PSA 8 Championship Ticket has been a pretty darn good investment.

A few years ago, I purchased a 5 card lot of 1962 Mars Attacks cards. The picture was very blurry. The seller sold toys......he was not a card guy. I took a chance and picked it up for about $100. I emailed the seller and asked specifically how he was going to ship them. He said he had 'card holders', which I assumed were top loaders. I was a bit nervous, but I hoped for the best.

When the package arrived, it was a bubble mailer with two top loaders inside. One top loader had three of the cards, the other had two. The cards were the cleanest, sharpest raw Mars Attacks cards I had ever seen! The only negative was that the top loader containing two cards, the cards had slipped out of the top and had corner dings.

I submitted them all to PSA. The three cards securely squeezed into the top loader came back as 7, 7 and 8.5!!
The two others with corner damage came back as 5 and 5.

I ended up selling them all for a pretty hefty profit from my $100 purchase.

In 2016, I bought a 2013 topps update set "lot" for $12 delivered (i was the only bid). The headline was ambiguous, but the description stated it came with 6 sets. I figured even if that was the typo, $12 for one set was still a good deal. Well the description was correct and so for $12, I ended up with 6 sets including Arenado, Yelich and Puig rookies.

Most of mine have come from star player lots, being able to eye some really scarce items mixed in with a bunch of common stuff. Paid $10 for one that contained a card that could have easily sold for $150-250 raw if sold on it's own.

I used to occasionally check in on the Art side of eBay and stumbled across four 1896/1897 watercolors used as the imagery for the 1900 Cope's Golfers set for an absolute steal.

A few years ago I purchased a fun bag that I thought was a good deal for having (7) 1976 Topps football wax packs and (3) 1976-77 Topps basketball packs in it. Ended up also having (4) 16th Series Wacky Packages packs that I had no idea the value... they've been recently going for $250-$500 per pack, depending on if they are graded or not.

I eyed this raw card for a few weeks, wondering why it was still sitting on eBay. I scrutinized every millimeter of the card, front and back. I found no flaws. Purchased for $8. Subbed it and dimed it.

    BAM!

    $400 card.
