It is crudely stuck.
Not quite my style, but a cool piece of history.
Those were cast, not struck.
Yup, it's an earlier cast example. These were later overstruck.

A bit more background, in 1810 Salcedo issued an order for the establishment of temporary mints in the villages of Chihuahua and Durango. There was no minting equipment, so until 1814 the Mint cast their coins. The template was taken from a regular Mexico Mint 8 Reales and care was taken to remove the M mint mark and substitute the CA in its place. The two stamps were applied by hand - a T indicating that a royal treasurer had received it and a small crowned pillars of Hercules with a pomegranate on the right to indicate that the comptroller validated it. By 1814 the mint received machinery and started to strike their coinage. Many of the earlier sand cast coins were later struck with the regular dies in this and other mints.
