Liberty Seated Dollar Varieties Book

A few years ago a good friend sent myself and a few other friends Brian Cushing’s and Dick Osburn’s book. A Register of Liberty Seated Dollar Varieties. It’s a great book and an excellent addition to my library. I see all the dealers and auction houses use the OC numbers when listing there auction lots. Do the top grading services plan on adding a variety attributions? I think it’s only a matter of time before they do.

Your welcome, hope your right. 🙂
If you're asking if PCGS will start, they tend not to be early adopters, but I can't answer that question. If they don't, there are alternatives.

I work for a TPGS. It is news to me that the 4 major grading services do not use this book for variety attributions. I do.
Pickwickjr- I’d like to see the variety attributions placed on the holders as well. It would help cut down on the number of proofs that are mistakenly placed into business strike holders. I had a blast going through my book and trying to find the varieties for my dollars a awhile ago. It’s time to go through and do another round as I’ve upgraded a few and added a few over the last few months.
I was wondering the same thing a while ago regarding 20 cent pieces. Some of the auction houses use the B-F numbers for varities, some don't. Some TPGs recognize them, but NGC and PCGS don't yet.
I even cracked out a few PCGS and NGC coins and had them reholdered with another firm so I could have the variety on the lable.
But then I realized that the longer the big boys ignore varieties for the set that I know, the more time I have to pluck scarce varieties without any premium.
PCGS already slabs seated half dollars by the WB number, and recently added seated dimes by tge Fortin number, so I guess they may add the other seated coins soon.
Until then, cherrypick varieties and make your own sickers.
Insider2 what grading company do you grade for?
I don’t collect any seated dollars by variety they are two expensive. I have one coin I would like the oc number on but will have to talk to pcgs. It is currently in a pcgs holder but the oc number would add value.
Crusty
Seen so many proofs 1862 in business strike holders and other dates. I friend had an 1865 that was graded a bs but was a proof. He finally got compensated on that one.
Brian and Dick did a great job on the book. I hope the grading companies start adding the OC attribution soon. The BF on the double dimes would also be great to see.
Or send them to someone who makes really nice looking stickers for your varieties.

Do you think anyone can do better than this?

That's a genuine presidential sharpie!
I prefer the fine point sharpie!
Rick Montgomery wrote it on there himself for you?

Yes, and on a small, white, circular sticker!
A Register of Liberty Seated Dollar Varieties.
For those real gluttons for punishment - when trying to do a date set of these just isn't hard enough!
I think Rick spends a lot of time in the "Foreign room" and possibly never saw this coin.
There are a couple SME here on this forum which have put together some exhaustive research on variety attribution. There are many who feel that their contributions should be acknowledged by the TPG's...and you can count me among them.
