Just acquired yesterday, in a swap with NEN.

I've wanted a Niobe medal since I first saw one. Fell in love with the design: the wonderful schooner and that ghostly, solemn cross hovering in the mist above the waves.

I had browsed around and bookmarked a few. All the ones I had seen were in silver. This one is gold, and PCGS-graded Specimen-66, to boot! I didn't even know the gold ones existed until recently.

Germany (Weimar Republic): gold specimen striking of a medal honoring the victims of the sunken schooner Niobe, 1932

PCGS SP66. Population 1 with 1 higher as of 10/15/2019. Schlumberger-123 Au, gold, 22 mm, 6.45 g.
