Jaguars’ CB Jalen Ramsey is being traded to the LA Rams for two first-round picks in 2020 and 2021, and a fourth-round pick in 2021,

Jalen Ramsey is a huge shutdown corner. Rams paid for a sure thing, first round picks are not a sure thing. They got their other pieces in place even though they are having a down year.

The Rams must feel he will help them right the ship. Maybe he will.

IMO, the Rams biggest problem is the lack of development happening with Goff, and his dependence on McVay vs reading defenses himself.

Rams did fine. Ramsey is a top 3 corner in the nfl. Theres a good chance the Rams have a good record this year and next so they wont be high 1st rounders. Id take a premier shutdown corner over 2 low 1st rounders every time.

Rams need a running game also. It's non existent compared to last season.

Only problem is that Ramsey is only under contract until the end of the season. If they can't re-sign him they gave away the future for what ...10 games. I didn't hear anything about him getting a new contract. Anyone else?

They could tag him though. The only thing I’ve heard about Ramsey was he was not injured and pretty much refused to play anymore for the Jags

    Sounds like they got Rammed.

They traded Peters so Ramsey is an upgrade. I would have kept both, Either way the inconsistency of Goff needs to be addressed, there is no reason why this team isn’t playing better.

this is what a team would do if they were close to going to a super bowl, the Rams have too many missing pieces to even sniff a super bowl

This is a different team without Gurley. They don't play the same and the D is not afraid to let Goff beat them. I don't get it though; they have three good WR's and a decent TE....why all of a sudden is passing such an issue. Has Goff been that
bad??? Looks like that dreaded Super Bowl loser hangover! And their D can't stop anyone to boot!

Very bad trade for the Rams, IMO. Overpaid for a great corner.

As far as the price goes, I don't think the price is that bad; he's a very high #1, plays like it and would be worth two #1's at the bottom end of the round as long as you are able to sign him and he doesn't pull the same thing that he did in Jax. In my mind that "shutdown" corner makes your defense so much better because it allows you to help on others, you're free to blitz more and you neutralize the other team's best receiver. Given that caveat and at that price, I'm upset the Eagles didn't get him!

Teams are stupid with draft picks. After the first 15 guys or so how many are actually impact players?

Not many, when a team has one or two specific needs and they hope to draft for that need, if a good player at the position isn't available, they often "draft for need", get a lousy player and basically waste the pick. At least the Vikings have done so quite often.

Granted, this particular trade is scary if he walks, but a proven all star player doesn't come along very often.

if i'm a Rams fan, i'm exponentially more concerned about the plight of the offense. Todd Gurley is receiving a firsthand account of why the average shelf life for an RB is 3 or 4 seasons; he is already damaged goods and in all likelihood will never be the same again. all of a sudden there's an imbalance on the offensive side of the ball that could very well drive the team toward also-ran status.

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

    Rams knew this last year.

They knew they DESPARATELY needed OL, and linebacker help. So with their second pick they take a running back, while ostensibly employing the best RB in the NFL.

    Says it all.

btw should've used the two first rounders to trade up in the draft, for a new QB, not a DB.

those two first rounders in the spot where they draft wouldn't be enough to move up that high

  • thisistheshowthisistheshow Posts: 9,386 ✭✭✭✭✭

It seems as though Goff has not spent time learning to read the defense enough, instead relying on McVay to do it for him through his headset at the line until it cuts off. Most likely the system they have in place has not allowed Goff to flourish and learn, and what we see now is the result.

I would agree that's too high of a price to pay for a corner.

It sure will be if they can't sign him. With today's players, what happens if the "tag" him and he wants out?

    Very dangerous trade.

If they can keep him and he can be a shut down corner, it was worth it. Two low first round picks (if they both happen to make the team and start) aren't going to help as much as an All-Pro CB. With the passing game the way it is CBs are important.

P.S. I spent several hours looking at the top teams drafting records over the last 10 years and if I remember correctly the Rams don't have a lot of guys starting that were drafted by them, compared to most.

I looked at Vikings, Eagles, Patriots, Saints, Packers and Rams. Maybe Steelers too.

Lots of corners drafted early, but a very limited number of exceptional ones. IMO, it's worth the price.
