I'd like to see Girardi, but I don't even give him a 50-50 chance.

    I can't even venture a guess.

Might be one of those scenarios whereby they choose a name out of a hat.

No, the Phillies would win every game because I'd cheat.

Okay not every game, i'd intentionally lose a few just so nobody gets suspicious. B)

don't worry about the pay cut. When you win, you won't have to pay for another meal or drink in this town for the rest of life....not to mention the endorsements and revenues like the pre-game show, talk show appearances.....need I go on. Hell, I'll even kick in to get someone who will manage a game "the right way".

Me and the Phillies are close.

My final demand is the contract must include an all-you-can-eat buffet each day which they don't seem willing to do at this point.

Well if they do agree to do this for you remember that it’s not ever good to be too full Steve 👍

If it doesn't get done, the Phillies may regret it.

I've tried to tell them that while watching the games on TV or in the stands, i am one of the greatest managers of all time. B)

Well Stevie...bad news, the powers to be have found you to be overqualified. Maybe an usher job, you know, the guy who wipes down the seats may be a viable option. Or, one of those guys who has to stand with his back to the game and watch the fans in case there's a potential violator in the masses. In that case, the benefit is being able to wear one of those puke green vest that say "STAFF"...not everyone gets to do that. I'm told you get free parking and one hot dog, w/beer per game, so all is not lost for you.

Can someone please tell me what they saw in Kapler for him to get interviews with the Cubs and Giants? Does everyone simply want the analytics to take over the game? Not every team has the players to make it work out that way, and the manager should be able to see that and adjust to it. Certainly didn't see that here. IMO

It's always been that way. You can stink up the place and go somewhere else for more money to boot.

Am I hearing that besides Girardi and Showalter, they are also going to interview Dusty Baker? Any truth to that?

  • JoeBanzaiJoeBanzai Posts: 11,795 ✭✭✭✭✭

OK take Baldummy and we'll throw in a bag of nice white baseballs and a player to be named later.

Haven't even heard any rumors. Have they even set up any interviews?

    Girardi.

It's going to take more than a World Series manager to get the Phils to the World Series. Still, I'm happy it's Girardi.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,022 ✭✭✭✭✭

Certainly the Phillies signing a well experienced manager was no surprise.

Whenever teams try a rookie manager, and he flops after one or two years and gets fired, they usually try to go for an experienced manager with as solid a track record as possible.

I'm happy with getting Girardi, and now we shall see what happens.

Girardi could make a big difference........if managing was the problem. If it was lack of talent it won't make much difference.

I must admit that it seems like former catchers do make good managers. I'm happy that Girardi was the choice. He has a good sense for the flow of the game, where in my opinion, Kapler would use analytics to a fault.
