1956 Topps Baseball Question

I noticed that for some of the older holders, there is not a designation on the label for GRAY BACK or WHITE BACK. If I send a card without the designation on the label to be reholdered, will the designation be included, or will PSA leave it blank again? The Variety/Pedigree is indicated in the PSA database, but not on the label. Thank you in advance for any replies.

When I started collecting Killebrew, I didn't know there were two different backs on the 1956 cards. Apparently neither did the people grading them or the grading companies, at first. I had to send in my cards and get them "fixed".

Your guess is as good as mine on what PSA would do if you sent one in without the designation, but I would hope that they would catch it.

Try it and see what happens.

Thanks, Joe. I will probably send it in to be reholdered in December. I will keep you posted. When you sent your cards in to be “fixed”, did they add the designation? Perhaps I can include a request with my submission.

I would try sending them in as Mech Errors, no charge to reholder as they have to swap out the flip to add the variety.

I just called PSA. I was told that the label should be corrected automatically, but to include a written request with my submission, just in case they miss it.

I don't believe Mech errors applies here as when it was graded in the past no back designations were noted.

I do also have a question. Other than 1956 and I know also1959 topps, .are they any other diff color backs out there? Even if PSA doesn't recognize them. I know 1950 bowman is now recognized as with or without copyright.
Somebody has gotten PSA to add both variations to the 1950 bowman Yankee team sets.. so far its not part of the 1959 team set

Ive had 1956 topps cards reholdered from older generation flips and they automatically will include gray back or white back on the new label. I dont think its necessary to include a note.

Yes, I sent them in to be reholdered and explained why. I also had a couple of white backs that weren't too white anymore that they thought were gray. I had to call or email and explain that if you looked closely, you could tell that thay had in fact been white(er) at one time.

It has been my experience that PSA doesn't look too closely at the backs of cards. Understandable as they don't have a lot of time to look at each card.

I would DEFINITELY include a note.

Besides 56, 59, 60....52 and 54 have back stock differences. For 52 there are two kinds of back differences, the red and black of the first series and the gray backs from 131-190. The latter are quite scarce and expensive, tending to cost more than the high series cards. Same is true for the 1-50 gray backs of the 1954 set. In some cases, 59 for example, both gray and white backs can exist in the same series

I definitely will. Thanks again, Joe.
