Heritage FUN Auction

goldengolden Posts: 9,984 ✭✭✭✭✭

Heritage has started to put up auction lots for the 2020 FUN auction. I see a New England Shilling and several Oak and Pine Tree Shillings. Looks like a complete set of Saint-Gaudens $20 including Wire Rim and Flat Rim 1907 High Reliefs in PCGS 67 with CAC stickers! Can't wait to see the complete catalog.

@golden The $20 Saint set is the Rollo Fox Collection, a PCGS registry set.

This is one of my favorites: https://coins.ha.com/itm/saint-gaudens-double-eagles/double-eagles/1927-d-20-ms65-pcgs-cac/p/1311-17025.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515

This one is going to be very interesting for me.
It's a pity though that many of Fox's coins will likely never see the light of day again.

It looks like he just updated his pictures so they will always be available in his "all time" set listing.
I think that was a very nice thing for him to do for us saint lovers.

The 27-D gets lots of looks but I like this one better :o

yeah, that $25 shipping really jacks up the price of a $5000 coin.

@ReadyFireAim Quite the cool toning and luster on the 1911-D. I can see why!

Actually, it’s only the $25 shipping. Maybe tax too, depending on where you live. But that 20% juice is really incurred buy the seller, not you, as almost all bidders (and hopefully you too) reduce your maximum hammer bid down to adjust for the 20% juice.

always some bidders pass right by adjusting for 20 % juice

While that may be true (where those bidders who don’t adjust their maximum hammer price down to adjust for the 20% juice they’d have to pay if they won the lot) they would end up paying 20% more than what they thought would be their total cost for the coin other than shipping. But that’s not the point. Since YOU’D adjust your maximum hammer price down by the 20% juice, if you’re the high bidder, YOU are not paying that 20%, the seller is absorbing that cost by your winning hammer price having been reduced!

Hey, but don’t let me change your mind. That’s one less potential person bidding against me. 😄

That may be true, or maybe not — we’ll find out in January. But somehow I’ve put together my entire collection virtually all from buying at auction, always adjusting my maximum hammer price down to adjust for the b.p. As previously noted, don’t let me change your mind, as that’s potentially one less person bidding against me. 😄

If you have empty hands, it has NOTHING to do with the Buyer's Premium. It has everything to do with someone being willing to pay more than you. The same coin with 0% BP will still leave you with empty hands.

    $25 shipping ... sales tax

Since I'll be attending the auction, no problems like that for me. Since I reside in a state with no sales tax on coins and currency, I just go to lot pickup after the auction and write a check. No shipping, no sales tax.
